I am a regular customer, I frequently buy cat litter , dog food, live insects etc.
But a few days ago I went in to buy 12 neon tetras and some shrimp, snails etc. but was refused more than 6. The employee only asked how long I?d had the tank empty, and when I said ?a few weeks,? they assumed it was new and that I was inexperienced. In reality, my tank has been set up and cycling for months without fish to establish stable bacteria and water parameters. it?s actually been running over a year, fully planted and mature.
I?ve been keeping fish, reptiles, and amphibians for 15+ years and have worked in pet stores and zoos, so I know what I?m doing. Instead of asking further questions, the staff assumed I was a beginner and treated me like I didn?t know how to care for fish. I felt humiliated and said nothing. (I was too surprised, im not very good socially) So I got my 6 neon tetras and left the store.
And like other reviewers have said; many of the fish in store tanks looked unhealthy, with visible signs of ich and fin rot. That, combined with the attitude and poor assumptions, means I won?t be returning here for livestock. For the other stuff, yes.
Instead, Support the local fish stores nearby!
