It?s a shame cos I always see queues outside this place but I myself didn?t enjoy it that much. Everyone else is opinions subjective but the pastries just tasted a bit stale for me and not reasonably priced.

Love this place for its fresh bread products, meats, pies, cakes etc.........
Only down side is that it's a bit expensive, which you'd expect for certain items but not for the items you'd find readily available elsewhere.

Excellent delicatessen in Chorlton, their charcuterie selection is 2nd to none in south Manchester. Great breakfast and lunch options as well! Thank you to Barbakan team ?

We visited after a long walk from our home area of Wythenshawe along the river to Chorlton. We arrived at lunch time and we both chose a lovely chicken ciabatta.
We only waited a couple of minutes and it was delivered to us at the seating area outside, by a friendly member of the team.
I chose a cake, which as a real cake lover wasn?t as nice as it looked, basic chocolate sponge, sorry I bothered with the cake!
We would definitely return for a sandwich/ciabatta again and the bread looked lovely too.

It?s so sad ? this used to be an awesome deli with a focus on quality but is so average to bad now ! Those leaving ok reviews are clearly new to the place and don?t know what it used to be ! Even Asda is better now - very tragic ?

I?m reliably informed the food here is good, but I queues for 15 minutes and was ignored repeatedly. When I pontes this out I was met with a squalid attitude. Horrible atmosphere amongst the staff. They all seem angry. Avoid - plenty of other choices nearby??although this lot haven?t noticed ?..evidently.

Thos was a great place but has become commercially viable as times have changed. It was a local deli with hand crafted, home made breads and confectionery, but has now become a ready to bake, of the Brake Bros menu. The breads are ready mix, not as health as used to be. A loaf needed slicing but now its so fluffy and light its impossible to work with. Like many businesses, Barbakan has changed to survive, the names of the breads still exist, but a Greek loaf?, Polish bread?, Rye bread? 6 Seed bread have all become enhanced breads. The traditional breads have followed the Dourdough recipe to Named breads but not the Quality. They have survived the economic changes but at a cost to the previous Quality.
Service and Staff turnover is a great problem for many in the Quality service industry which is sad to see, but inevitable.
I wish everyone a good future but the competition between Supermarket and Local has beaten.
I want to thank the Original staff. Service was a joy with the Ladies who offerd kindness which now feels like an obligation to do a job, not a joy.
Please enjoy the place as you can, tines have changed and I prefer tradition to the new version. Steffan and staff did great but change was inevitable. Thank you fir the past pleasures ??

Some Incredible breads, pastries, cheeses and cold cuts. If I'm ever in the mood for a sandwich, I'll go here and buy everything fresh, incredible.

Food is really over priced and staff that served me was rude & short with me. This is my first time and was really looking forward to the visit but it wasn't worth the hype. The almond croissant I had was average, not even better than what you get from Aldi/Lidl bakery, so not sure why they would charge 4.99 for a tiny flat white & almond croissant. I expected a better quality & overall experience. I love the seating outside though, that's what I mainly came for!
