I haven't stayed here, but came for a meal recently with friends and we thought it was excellent. The staff were nice, service was quick and it was a good looking place. The food was excellent, fairly priced and a fab menu with plenty of choice. Quick service and generous portions too!
The only negative was that my friend booked it following their website saying they were dog friendly. However, the restaurant isn't. They were still able to accommodate us, and I am supportive of the restaurant not taking dogs, this just needs to be made clearer when booking. I'll be back soon.

Update 27/2/25
Popped in for pre dinner drinks place not changed but I noted they are changing the name to the Blackstone Edge Inn ! Restaurant still devoid of many customers maybe a rebrand ? Note to owners bit of a clue drive up the hill a bit and check a proper place to eat , you have a long way to go before your place compares to this
First time at the Moorcock
We went on a Sunday afternoon . Bar looked great busy car park but as we walked through into the ? restaurant ?. A big change it looked like a cafe not a restaurant. Staff service very poor lots of younger staff very slow . Food simple I ordered Sunday lunch beef option lady ordered steak pie couple of drinks and a bill of £58 ! Not best for money .
Beef cooked well but veg very minimal few scraps of cabbage sticks of carrot and a blob of mash not very good. York pud crispy but gravy very small amount .
One plus was freshly baked cauliflower cheese. As per pics we won?t be back the lady with short hair was great but rest staff very poor leaving us with a feeling of never to return . Poor service , average food and the place was cold many customers sat eating with coats on !
Very disappointed should have gone to our usual a mile up the hill never disappointed at that place or many others . Lots of good reviews no idea why as food was definitely average, service poor and surroundings devoid of any character or atmosphere?. I think two stars very kind

Visited tonight as I had been told by my partner the cheese and onion pie was good and it did not disappoint! Staff were lovely and accommodating the food was decent my brother had a burger and said he enjoyed it. The decor and the genuine feel of the place was very warm and cosy although really spacious, will definatly be coming again and can't wait for summer in their garden :)

Went today
Rung ahead to make sure dish we wanted was available. They said yes. Got there none available.
Marquis still blocking lively view. 20 yards to right it would still be useful for weddings and functions but not block the lovely view from terrace or pub.
Food was OK. But what a wait for it. Plenty of staff pleasent but look a bit lost.
Realise its under new ownership.
Will come back in a while when staff have bedded in and got used to their roles, will give it another try it's such a lovely pub. And new tap room looks good idea.
Well done to new owners.

I had a truly disappointing experience at this restaurant. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes for our starters to arrive, and then we were left waiting for a mind-boggling 2 hours until our mains finally came out. We placed two drink orders, both of which took about 20 minutes or more each to arrive, which was incredibly frustrating. When the food finally did come, it was not only incorrect but also bland and lacking in any real flavour. Specifically, the Irish tacos came with just one slice of cabbage and hardly any meat (as shown in the photo I?ve attached). To make matters worse, the waitresses never checked in with us to see if everything was okay, but I understand that this wasn?t their fault?it clearly stemmed from issues in the kitchen. The entire experience was far from what I expected, and I won?t be returning unfortunately!

I recently had the absolute misfortune of stepping foot in Moorcock restaurant, and it was a complete and utter catastrophe. The food was not just terrible; it was a disgrace to the culinary world?inedible slop that should never have left the kitchen. We waited an infuriating two hours for our meals, only to be served garbage. The service? A complete nightmare. The waitresses were not only unapologetic, but they also had the audacity to act like our complaints were a nuisance. This place is an absolute joke and a stain on the dining scene. Zero stars is too good for it; it deserves to be condemned. Save yourself the agony and steer clear of this disaster!

Went for lunch, it's under new ownership so decided to give it a go - excellent! Food was amazing, service excellent! I understand it's had a few teething problems but I think they've ironed those out pretty quickly as it was a great place and we will be going back!
