Just been into Screwfix on Manchester Road, and what an absolute farce.
My daughter (26) went in with my son (15) to buy a trade tin of WD-40 ? which, as many people know, is essentially just fish oil in a can. The staff refused to sell it to her because she didn?t have her ID. Fair enough, you might think, until they then turned to my 15-year-old son and asked him if he had ID. He?s a child. How ridiculous can you get?
So I had to go in myself. I explained we already had WD-40, and that my daughter was paying for it. Their response? ?We can only sell it to the person who?s paying.? Nonsense. I could?ve stood next to her, given her the money, and it would still have been refused. This is box-ticking gone mad.
The excuse given was that it?s a ?statutory ID requirement.? Absolute rubbish ? I checked, and it isn?t. It?s nothing more than Screwfix?s own invented rule. Britain is broken when common sense is completely absent, and when retail staff can?t exercise the slightest bit of judgement.
The member of staff in question should be retrained at the very least ? if not dismissed ? because this kind of robotic stupidity drives customers elsewhere. We ended up ordering the same thing from General Traffic instead, who will happily drop it off at my workplace without all this nonsense.
Screwfix: you?ve just lost a customer.

Ordered safety shoes, they weren?t available yesterday, but the team quickly ordered them in and I received them today. Great service and helpful staff.

I had a lovely experience at Screwfix, I had come straight from work and was very tired and not in very socialising mood, however these two amazing lady?s Don-don and Chloe really helped me and cheered me up. They were extremely friendly and made me laugh, helped me with what I wanted, and over all I had a wonderful time.

My husband & myself came to the shop on Saturday it was very busy but nothing was too much trouble for Donna. She was sorting all the customers out telling them to do the order on the laptops then they wouldn't need to wait. Donna was really helpful when we asked about our problem which she sorted straight away. No rushing us taking her time trying to sort us out. She told us what to buy & she was right. We thanked her & left. I must say we have fantastic service from all screwfix staff .here &
