NO FREE PARKING. signs everywhere says pay and display so I paid and went to the till to get my £1 car parking fee back after spending £56. Was told it was for charity and they wouldn't give me back my £1. Scammers, cover your signs that says £1 for up to 1 hour and £2 for 2 hours not the machines as the one i went to had the paper sign taped on ripped off. Staff said I should have read the sign and refused to give me back £1. Never coming back again. Will give my business somewhere else. Your loss for £1 parking. Absolutely atrocious.

Dear Matalan Customer Services,
I am writing to formally raise a complaint about my recent experience at your Romford branch on the 24th of July between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
As I proceeded to pay for my items at the self-checkout, I was informed by a staff member that I could only use the self-checkout if I had a Matalan card. If not, I would need to join a long queue for the single manned till available. This was extremely frustrating, especially as I only had a few items and could have easily used the self-checkout.
After querying this at other Matalan stores, I was informed that this is not a company-wide policy, and I was wrongly advised. I am appalled by the misinformation provided, particularly as I previously worked for Matalan for over a year and know that misleading customers in this way is unacceptable.
While I understand the aim of encouraging Matalan card usage, this approach felt coercive and left a very poor impression. To avoid further delay, I ended up creating a Matalan account on the spot just to be able to check out my items.
I would also like to raise concern about the lack of staffing. At that time, there was only one manned till open, with a visibly long queue forming. This added to the frustration of an already disappointing experience.
Please ensure your staff are properly trained and do not mislead customers regarding store policies. The individual in question was a young white male.
I hope to hear from you soon regarding the actions you will take to ensure this does not happen again. I will not be returning to the Romford store as a result of this experience.
