We passed a wetherspoons pub in Rayleigh and I asked my husband if we should go there but we decided to visit The Barge Inn in Battlesbridge. We had been there many years ago. I had a chicken curry lots of chicken but flavourless, unfortunately. (wetherspoons curry is so much better). Husband had the bacon steak (fatty and tough). We will not be returning. The staff are brilliant very friendly and they work very hard. The pub looks tired and finished serving food at 5.30pm on a Saturday.

I was really disappointed with my recent visit. The service left a lot to be desired ? our waitress was quite rude and gave the impression that she didn?t want to be there. The avocado on toast was also a letdown ? it tasted sour and was overwhelmingly spicy. Despite this experience, I?m hoping to give The Barge Inn another try in the future and see if it lives up to the more positive reviews I?ve read.

Good pub, I like to sit outside in the summer, they have plenty of outside space, but the seating is poor....just basic picnic benches.

Lovely pub, friendly attentive staff.
Prices are ott for what is on offer on the menu and specials are limited.
We visited on a Sunday and I think the menu is mainly for a roast dinner.

Had a pint and ordered a side chips, for nearly £5 for side chips I expected more. The bowl was so small, about the size of your palm, an literally had like 10 chips in. Was disappointed with the portion to cost ratio.

Sadly won?t be back, the waitress allowed the food we wanted to take home to be thrown away and one of the main meals was terrible no acknowledgement from the staff no discount offered or apology. Not going back.

Breakfast for 3 and little change from £60.
Average breakfast, place almost empty. The staff very friendly and helpful.
Can't wait for the cafe at the top of the antique centre to reopen.

A lovely pub, a little expensive but it's in a nice area so worth it! We only had drinks though.
