Yusef was phenomenal he?s always a bright and cheery face at the desk and no issue is too big for him to sort! We are so grateful for Yusef

This is a great gym, with fabulous yoga and Pilates teachers, and a great spa area. Front desk is always friendly and Yusuf Saleem in particular is super kind, helpful and funny! Makes coming to the gym even better! (Has a smile that lights up the room!)

Completely incompetent staff/management don't seem to know what way is up when it comes to contracts and the resolution of issues. You will get 5 different answers from 5 different people.
Will also regularly close pool/spa area for extended periods of maintenance.
For the premium cost this is not a premium service.

Soo many classes and lots of options! I love coming to this gym the only negative side is that the equipment seems a little tired compared to other virgin locations especially the reformers. Also a slightly less luxurious feel than other locations but I guess it?s because it?s a more family friendly venue

Lovely staff but terrible management. Takes an hour to get an actual person on the phone, (if your call isn?t dropped) they mis - charged me late fees 3 months ago and 6 different people assured me they?ve taken care of it. Still cannot book classes or use my membership properly, every single time I enter the gym I have to re explain. Total nightmare, avoid. There are just too many gyms and the price is way too high for such poor management. Will be switching gyms ASAP. Get it together VA!

I've been a Virgin member for a few years and have been using Angel for about a year, mainly for pool and reformer pilates. Things to know:
1) Reformer class quality is variable. Some instructors offer excellent classes which are as good or better than you would get at a dedicated pilates studio. Some others are less experienced and knowledgeable and the class is less good quality as a result.
2) Reformer pilates in general, vs mat: it depends on the teacher, but I think reformer is overrated. As taught at Angel, it's not nearly as challenging a core workout as mat--I could clearly feel and see the decline in my core strength when I swapped from mat (at a different club) to reformer (at Angel). If like me you have lower back issues I would definitely go for a quality mat class over reformer. In my experience there's also less focus on correct technique in many reformer classes compared to mat--it's easier to get into bad or incorrect habits and for some exercises the reformer machine can even encourage the wrong posture. On the reformer there is also a greater risk of real injury if something goes wrong.
3) Pool: 25m, with flags, lane ropes and lane markings. It's fine for a gentle swim, but as with other Virgin pools the pool tries to be both an exercise facility and a spa. Thus the lighting is low and visibility underwater not great, also lane etiquette not adhered to, so you need to be careful. As with other Virgin pools, unfortunately not a good spot for a high energy/fast paced swim workout.
4) Bookings, management, customer service: Angel can get extremely busy on weekdays after work. You need to be very organised to book classes a week in advance and set an alarm on your phone because some of them book up in less than 30 seconds. Lockers can be difficult to come by in peak times. There has also been disruption to classes (classes/schedules cancelled or changed at short notice) which can make it difficult to maintain a good routine.

**Update 7 months after their reply claiming to address the issues I flagged** literally nothing has changed. Pool was closed for all of August and yet they couldn?t find time to clean the pool deck. The viewing windows remain visibly filthy with the same smears remain by in place for months on end. Communication continues to be nonexistent. Competence continues to elude all management staff. Toilet seats continue hanging on by a thread. The single area of competence was in hiring the amazing swim instructor who is the sole reason for my continued membership.
** Original Review**
Service so terrible it?s impressive. The club is filthy and falling apart.
Want to join and register your child for swim lessons? Make sure you have weeks to spare and the fortitude to send over 100 emails. Your kid got promoted up in levels (hooray) and the instructor told you his start date in the new class? Be prepared for the ego-driven admin team to override that (how dare an instructor have the gall to speak directly to parents!!!), communicate nothing to you, and result in a missed lesson. Instructor is unwell and they don?t have a substitute instructor? Definitely don?t expect them to notify you. Want a refund for the cancelled class? Again be ready to spend weeks chasing. If you?re lucky maybe it gets resolved with 50 instead of 100 emails.
The admin team for families and swim care more about hierarchy than competency. They block competent staff (like the awesome swim instructor) from effectively managing lessons and comms, leaving instead a comms void, confusion, missed lessons, and an accrual of unissued refunds.
Think raising a complaint to the GM and customer service managers will be met with any effort at improvement? Ha! They?ll ignore you for ages and then just give you a customer service hotline number to call.
Slobber and smeared grubby handprints live all over the glass viewing area overlooking the pool for weeks/months. The only time I?ve seen it clean is when I?ve requested someone to clean it. Changing room floors covered in hair and dirt. Toilet seats literally falling off. No toilet tissue is the norm.
Oh, and broken wood with sharp nails can be picked as toys up by small humans.

Shower area could be improved, looks dated, worn, the floor is a bit slimy. The provide shower gel and conditioner is low quality. In the lockers room, vents are full of dust and filth as well as corners not in the imediate eye sight. But, is quite big with loads of lockers, alright for a non luxury gym, besides the details that can be improved. Pool was closed for a month but I had no compensation. I quite enjoy the place, lots of equipament and space, specially the varied and frequent classes. Most instrutors are great, specially Jake. Pool is great as well as spa area. Love the smoothies at the bar. Staff is generally nice

Really helpful staff, I had arrived at the gym today and had forgotten my locker padlock, I was running late to a class, Yusuf and Cameron who were on the front desk were extremely helpful and accommodating. They ensured I had a padlock to borrow so I could make the class. I?ve been a member of virgin for over a year and I am really happy with the gym. Staff are always helpful!

Yusuf & Cameron are always very welcoming. They are the best membership consultants I have come across. The facilities are amazing here at Angel & I can?t wait for the spa to reopen. I love attending classes & catching up with Yusuf

I never normally write reviews online but I felt the need to just for the young good looking guys Cameron and Yusuf on the Sales Team. They are so helpful and are a true asset to the club. They constantly have a large workload, but they always go out their way to help resolve any issues I have. I always enjoy seeing them together all around the club.

Yusuf at Angel Virgin Active signed my friend and I up for the gym, and he?s been fantastic from the start. He?s always friendly, approachable, and greets us with a smile, making us feel genuinely welcome every time we walk in! ?
