I usually give it 5 stars if a place really struck me, and The Black Penny did. The atmosphere inside is amazing, there are 4 little rooms with some tables each with a different style, but same vibe. The food was delicious - I would have loved having some cakes too, but it was great anyway. Service is just amazing. The place was not packed, so the guys had the chance to give us the best service - it would be interesting to see when the venue is full, if the level of service stays the same. I went there for the first time years ago and I had a positive memory, I was very happy to confirm that memory.

The guy welcomed us at the entrance was amazing, although the cafe can get a little busy on a Sunday morning, yet he always has smile on his face and greet his customers cheerfully, food and drinks was served fast. Great menu selection, the food was good, friendly & efficient service, fair price (u can tell they use high quality ingredients). Would come back again!

I really did not appreciate my brunch here over the weekend, I came with some friends and overall was very disappointed.
To start, I was sitting in the back near the stairs and barely had any space to move, to the point where I had to ask my friend to move her chair all the times otherwise there was no way for me to get in or out. Felt like I was sitting in one of those chairs in the corner that are supposed to only be for bags or jackets.
My friends and I had to ask 4 times for water after ordering before they brought it to us and I waited 45 minutes for some scrambled eggs! I am not exaggerating, I checked at what time I ordered (2pm) and when they arrived (2:47pm). To me that seems way too long for some eggs.
Lastly, the waitress that served us really did not want to be there, you could tell. She was completely passive and annoyed when we asked anything and overall very slow. She had an attitude of ?what do you want now? which I did not appreciate at all considering I also worked in hospitality and know how important a positive attitude is for the customers.
On the bright side, the guy at the entrance was kind.

This could be the best breakfast/brunch spots in covent garden.. Outside seating and roomy indoor seating as well. One of few spots that has v60 coffee, and a great one too. Tried multiple orders, I could say favorites are duck hash and scrambled eggs over sourdough bread. The scrambled eggs are just fantastic in texture, and in flavor too.

Visited on a busy Saturday for brunch after booking the night before. Seated right away but would recommend to reserve as there was a queue for walkups. Drinks & food order was taken & served quickly, however didn't feel rushed - kitchen was able to accomodate menu changes too which was appreciated.
Ordered the brioche french toast with a side of bacon, & The Gatherer, plus two teas.
Only improvements would be the size of the table given each drink comes with a pot, saucer etc. Whilst the toilets were clean, there was only 1.
Location great as just on the edge of Covent Garden so not too crowded outside.
Automatic service charge is put on the bill but can be removed.
