We totally enjoyed the Sunday roast, buttered cabbage and the cheesecake. Great recommendation from staff (sorry forgot to ask for the name but thank you!).

I have been going to the Anchor and Hope for years and IMHO I have never had a bad meal. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the food is always top notch. On this occasion I tried the bisque followed by the steamed halibut with spinach. As I was feeling a bit indulgent I finished with a pear and rhubarb tart with clotted cream. I honestly believe the food quality here is better here than many a more prestigious restaurants and the value for money is really good. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the Waterloo / Southwark area.

We chanced it for a lunch here with our little baby - the anchor and hope made us feel like real adults again! We had grouse lasagna and a big pork chop, simple greens and good bread and butter with a glass of wine. You could tell the food was made with love - delicious, saucy, comforting on a cool autumn day, no pretensions but still elevated and elegant. Our daughter slept long enough for us to eat uninterrupted and she loved meeting the kind chefs too! Thanks so much for a perfect lunch ??

Love it here. Such great value and fantastic cooking. Perfect for a Saturday lunch. Friendly and not over zealous staff. Great to have a few bottles and leave feeling stuffed and happy. A star!

Very good gastropub on The Cut not far from Southwark tube station. Three cask beers on handpump when I last visited. A few tables outside some of them covered. On the latest visit, I was popping in for a quick pint before seeing a play at the Young Vic which is a few yards away. But the pub is primarily noted for its food offering.

They?ve cooked the lamb for 7 hours and that?s pretty much it! Tasteless! So you ask for the good old mint sauce - get out of jail free card for tasteless lamb - and they don?t serve it?I found this place from a google search for pub grub. See picture attached. Does it look like a pub to you. Moreover they sat us at the bar and then tried to charge £11 service charge for carrying plates 2 metresThis place needs to admit it?s a restaurant. The cheapest wine is £30 but most are £50 plus

The food we had on the day was a slightly salty. Nevertheless was not bad. I expected a little bit more preparation on the parma ham and melon starter though.

We typically got here for pre-theatre before Old Vic or Young Vic. Seated at 6pm we are always out in an hour. Some of the best service in the area from a very experienced crew who have been there for years. Food is always inventive with lots of seasonal produce. Great price point considering food inflation of late.

We visited here a few times during our visit to London - lunch, dinner and drinks. Interesting menu and food was delicious. Lemon pot with cassis is best dessert I?ve had for a while. Excellent service and especially great barman. Would definitely recommend

We stopped in here one evening as we thought it was a pub. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, the staff were great too. The food was excellent.

Visited for a pre theatre drink with my partner. Really condescending, rude waitress - felt very uncomfortable and left. The food might be lovely, but we didn?t stay to find out!

We came for a pre-theatre meal before heading onto the Meinier Chocolate Factory. The choice of food was almost overwhelming, it was incredibly difficult to decide! Real thought had been put into the menu, which changes regularly, possibly daily. Service was awesome, recommendations spot on. You choose between big and small plates. I would recommend under ordering, as you can always ask for more. This is now my go-to for whenever I want a pre-theatre meal in the area, just kicking myself for not having visited before!

Nice atmosphere and wonderful service but eye-watering prices. No vegan options; ended up having a main with something removed in order to make it vegan. Paid £20 for a pile of aubergine, onion, garlic, tomatoes and a bit of fried flour (farinata). Was pretty disappointing and feels like an obscene margin they must be making.
