La Gaffe translates to blunder, mistake or faux pas. That?s a bit too close for comfort for this hotel.
It?s clean. Affordable for London. Comfortable bed. That?s the good news.
The downside is a youth hostel level of accommodation, quirky layout, many steps, and maintenance issues galore.
Hampstead is a very upscale neighborhood, crammed with coffee shops, spas, and expensive boutiques. La Gaffe is out of sync with the gentrified neighborhood.
The furnishings are old and tired, rooms are tiny and spartan. The included continental breakfast is as basic as it gets.
During our 4 night stay in hot weather, the bathroom towel rack was red hot and couldn?t be turned off. The phone fell apart when we touched it. The accessible back door would have been ideal for my mobility challenged husband, but according to the proprietor, the key was lost years ago.
Stay at La Gaffe if it?s the right location for you, but book with realistic expectations.

Lorenzo came to my rescue after a long and arduous flight from Australia. Exceptional kindness and hospitality. Highly recommended.

Very wonderful and comforting place to stay. The staff are amazing and extremely welcoming. I would recommend this place to anyone and think everyone should experience a hotel like this, especially since you don?t find these types of establishments often! Loved it!

Lorenzo and the staff here are wonderful. When most hotel chains have a very impersonal feel to them, at La Gaffe, the staff makes the experience of staying in a hotel more like staying with friends. Whenever I stay in London, I always look forward to staying in beautiful Hampstead and seeing my friends at La Gaffe.

La Gaffe is exquisite! I wouldn't stay anywhere else in London.
The lovely Alex stayed late, as my plane got in after reception hours. That little kindness says it all. I cannot describe my gratitude after traveling to three different countries and hitting some snafus that left me in tears. I felt cared for the whole three days I was there.

We stayed at La Gaffe in May of 2025 for five nights. This was our fourth stay, so you can tell that we like it there. It is clean, the breakfast is very good, and Lorenzo and staff are very pleasant. That hill from the tube station seems to have got steeper though. ;^ )

Really charming hotel, the staff are very friendly and attentive, the owner is always there to help.
In the room, we have everything we need. The location is lovely and very convenient, 5 minutes walk from a tube station. If I come back to London, I will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Stayed at La Gaffe for a short 2 day trip to London from the states. Our host Lorenzo was so incredibly kind, and helpful! Unfortunately, just prior to leaving I had injured my leg and was having mobility issues ?which made exploring London very difficult but Lorenzo helped us find solutions to navigate around my disability. Our room was nice and comfortable and the breakfast was basic but satisfactory and we were met with bright smiles and warm welcomes from Lorenzo and staff. Also the location of the hotel was great. It?s nicely located in a quite posh little neighborhood and walking distance from the tube. Would absolutely stay there again and hopefully next time I?ll be able to run up those stairs. Thank you for a great trip!
P.S. for the ladies out there who like to get dressed and dolled up. There?s not a full body mirror or large mirror of any kind so mentally prepare for that :)

My parents and I stayed at La Gaffe a few days ago. It was the most homely, pleasurable experience.
Lorenzo was such a sweetheart, as was Gaseppi, Dekka and all the staff!
The location was spot on, close to everything and lots of food spots a minute walk away.
The rooms had all that you need. Each morning, we had delicious bread rolls and fruits for breakfast, as supplied by the hotel.
I?ve never been to Hamstead before, but it felt like coming home. If you want this kind of experience, book here.

Well priced guesthouse in the centre of Hamstead. Rooms a generous and clean. Reception staff courteous. Access can be a little awkward so best ask about that. Surrounded by lovely coffee shops and restaurants. Continental breakfast included.

Tiny yet efficient hotel.
Breakfast is basic but enough to start your day.
Close to the Underground station which is very convenient.
The room for a single bed was compact though comfortable and clean.
Service was great very welcoming and helpful.

We went here for dinner only as they also have a lovely restaurant. I love it that the setting is fantastic, ambience and atmosphere too. Good value for money in a gorgeous, calm part of London, Hampstead that is! It was an amazing treat!

A charming B&B in a beautiful part of London. This 1850 house tells a story (Peter O'Toole was a regular here). La Gaffe offers everything you need for a city trip: comfortable beds, a small, delicious breakfast, delicious coffee specialties, proximity to the subway station and, last but not least, Lorenzo and his team are incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful stay and can recommend La Gaffe 100%.
