Lies they tell! Last night, my family and I were given a recommendation to attend this restaurant. What a dissapointment! The staff was rude and quite aggressive. As a first time visitor to London, J Sheekey was highly recommend but what a let down, it was quite a shameful experience! The young man upfront was offended by my daughter who was holding a camera and started to run and hide . He directed us to another associate to check us in. As we sat down, yet another associate, not sure if he was the manager began to lecture us on not taking videos or pictures in their restaurant. Not once did he ask us if we did said act or not. He just assumed that we did, and we all know what happens when you assume. As we sat there waiting on a server, we began to feel uncomfortable as other workers were looking and pointing, even cutting their eyes. We were not welcome, without a doubt. So we did what anyone else would do, ask if there was a charge for sitting there, which said waiter went and asked and we were confirmed to not owe and we left. Best decision ever, because as we left, there was a patron who was looking at their bill, stating that the place was over priced and service was not up to par! We ended up at Bentley's Bar and Grill and of course they saved the day! The vibe was spectacular and the food was great! This place was wonderful! J Sheeky's a joke! They are also liers, they will make up a lie to make themselves look good, SMH! Told our hotel that we took videos in there and that was not true at all but since they insist on lying, we will make sure to let whomever will listen of their ill treatment towards us and their unethical behavior!

We had a 5 pm reservation and when we walked into the restaurant we were the first patrons there. Despite the restaurant being empty we were seated next to the kitchen. Being that they were just opening there was constant movement as well as conversations amongst the staff which ended up being quite noisy. We were asked to choose between still or sparkling water (which of course came with a 6 pound fee) however the next couple that was seated was given free tap water. The meal itself was just ok. We ordered the sea bass, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The best part of the visit was the cocktails. After receiving the bill we inquired about what the 6 pound cover charge consisted of; apparently it was for the "bread, butter and tablecloths" We didn't request any bread however we were still expected to pay for it. All in all it was just ok for me and I don't plan on returning to this restaurant.

Uncomfortable experience. It is my last of 10 days of my vacation. Im exhausted & sore after walking around every day but I don't want to leave London without trying the Fish 'n Chips. I searched for places near our hotel as we walked back. The first places we walked to had permanent closed down so we tried one more time. In Google maps it said "Best fish n chips in town'. I could not walk much further so we went there. It was down an alley and I assumed a place that lists fish n chips as their specialty is not bougie. My mistake! I had on jeans and my son unfortunately had sweat pants but there was no way I was walking all the way back to the room to change. They ushered us right in though, sweet. It was really quite humorous. There were 3 other tables already seated abound us ... but they took our order, brought out our food and we were about done before anyone else got their food. They really wanted us in & out. The waitress was fine. She brought us bread which was tasty. I was super thirsty so I just got water and my son got 'still water' and a coke (pretty sure it was out of the tap. The portion size was large and the taste of the food was ok. We were not given a dessert menu. Guess they wanted us out faster. On a plus, we were In and out in record time! When they brought the bill there was a $4 service fee .... ??? I was charged $6 for the warm water Definitely a bit exaggerated on the price. About $25 for fish n chips. Totally bill over $72 for 2 fish n chips, water and one coke. I would not go there again and recommend them for fish n chips, but if you want to pay too much and be surrounded by snotty people (there was obvious judgement & whispering when I asked for the 90% of my food to be boxed up) than this is your place. I have ate in bougie places that cost more and tasted better and if someone walked in that wasn't dressed for the opera I wouldn't judge them ?

Very good service Very attentive Table reservations are necessary I wish the menu had grilled seafood instead of raw or stewed

I've been going to J Sheekey for more than 40 years. I'm usually passing through London on business and eat at the bar. The food is always great but the bar service is hit or miss. My recent visit was a miss. One bartender was nice but did t know the menu, messed up my order. The other bartender was a jerk. I left after the soup. Maybe next time will be better.

1896, that is the year this marvelous restaurant opened. We had theater tickets for a play at 7, and the theater was basically next door. Greeted as we walked in I handed over my jacket and we were sat at a Duce in the back corner, perfect. Handed our menu and drinks ordered...my first impression was how old school is this. Wow, The menu consisted of seafood selections that wowed me to no end. I'm not going to repeat the menu l, thats part of the discovery. I'll tell you we started with some Oysters from France on an ice bed with two sauces and a lemon. I also ordered a Shrimp and Avocado salad, great shrimp, nice. Our main selections was Filet of Sea Bass and Seafood Grill...Wow We were not disappointed. The service was excellent, the food incredible, and the place was way cool. It's Great Place. (not a place to take pictures, poor taste) Foodguy-Martin

We were very disappointed as this restaurant has a great reputation but did not live up to it when we visited. From the start felt like I was being rushed to leave. The restaurant has a chain restaurant feeling and not anything special. Service was substandard had plates being collected when hadn't even finished eating. The freshness of the fish was questionable. Did not taste the way it should. Fish was de-boned by the service elevator in full view of guests. After watching the waiter faff with de-boning the fish came out cold. Accidentally got 2 lots of carrots on the side which amounted to 70% of the food served. Desert wasn't bad but not great. The previous night ate dinner at the Chesterfield Hotel Restaurant and the comparison was night and day. Highly recommend the Chesterfield! Had a 3 course meal with one cocktail and one soft drink amounting to £304. I expect it to be expensive due to location but it really was not worth it at all. Would not recommend this restaurant at all.

We went on a Sunday and they have live jazz. The place is historic but kept up and quite elegant. It is located in the "theatre district" and great before or after a show but we went for the jazz. The food was excellent. My husband had salmon and a huge salad. I had an eggplant (aubergine) dish and a different salad. I love that they offer a lot of plant-based food along with seafood and other entrees. We loved the place and want to go back the next time we are in London.

Another amazing experience. This is our treat when we visit London and is our favourite restaurant ! The food is out of this world and the atmosphere and staff make the whole evening a great experience! We had the seafood platter for 2 which was delicious. Thank you again and we hope to visit soon.

So, we revisited J Sheekey having last been just before the lockdown. We wanted it to be as good...we were not disappointed. We had the most incredible experience dining here. Yes the food was utterly delicious, but we were welcomed in by the team and were lucky enough to have Sorida (I really hope I have spelt that right) as our main waitress. She was serving in the furthest restaurant area to your right as you walk in, lunchtime on the 30th of December. And she is a STAR. We loved her smiley ways, she was warm and friendly and all her food recommendations were bang on. The starters were incredible, potted shrimp for some and tiger prawns for others....the mains of a halibut in a champagne sauce, the curry, and the fish and chips were amazing....and the puddings were to die for. Along with a couple of bottles of Whispering Angel. The team who brought the food to us had the same warm attitudes, and Luca the manager was also so warm and friendly, along with Antonio. But our main star was the food, the atmosphere and our lovely waitress. That is what will make us return again. My lovely Mum said that in her 82 years she has never enjoyed a restaurant visit as much as she enjoys this one. It's a tough ask J Sheekey, but please be as good when we return for the next time too! Thank you to all the team on the day, everything was wonderful.

What can i say? a great meal and fantastic service, i had galician octopus and my wife had scallops to start, both were simply fabulous, we both then had lobster thermidor, we both felt slightly disappointed with this, the quality was beyond doubt, I wasnt so keen on the sauce. i didn't complain but did provide feedback that we overall had a nice time, but the lobster was slightly disappointing, via the website, literally the next morning (new years eve ) i had a phone call from them, immediate refund of both lobsters! - i wasn't even after a refund, but they insisted, a class outfit and I will return (although might not have thermidor!)

Wow - a true delight for the taste buds and the senses. We enjoyed a superb late lunch at this most beautiful unique restaurant. Recommended by a dear friend who has visited for many years, so glad she did as it's not to be missed. The decor is amazing, it's like the most comforting, relaxing movie set - it just makes you smile. We arrived early so we enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar which is a true delight. Our table was beautifully set. We shared the twice baked cheddar souffle to start which was amazing. With a long evening ahead, we decided to enjoy a wholesome main course of haddock with chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Wow, those mushy peas tasted so fresh and the tartare sauce - the best ever. We felt pleasantly and tastefully filled for the evening ahead. When our event finished at midnight we were not hungry. Lots of attention from the waiting staff however never OTT. Everything was just right and we will most certainly return on our next trip to London. Highly recommended.
