One of those places you can spend hours exploring the old oak shelves and tables scattered about creaking under the weight of piles of books. In a word, fantastic

Hatchard's is a fantastic bookstore close to Picadilly! We ducked in here to escape the rain, but ended up spending a fair amount of time here. Plenty of recommendations, classics, fiction, non-fiction, and history. It's easy to find your next classic among its many floors of books!

Great variety of books and well organized in a beautiful historic library. It has various limited editions exclusive to the bookstore itself.

The atmosphere inside is amazing. This is know to be the oldest bookstore in London. Even if you are now willing to buy any books have a look at this historical place. The prices of the books are also good and they often sell good books with reduced price.

Love this place so much. Beautiful book shop and quieter than most others in Central London. Wish it had some places to sit and read but I love coming in here every time I pass by anyway.

Beautiful bookshop with, despite being off of Piccadilly Circus, a lovely calm environment.

I had an awful day and thought I?d treat myself to a browse in the shop. I asked for a recommendation, and not only did I end up with three perfect books; but also, whenever I pick the books up, I will be reminded of the patience, kindness, joy, and passion of the staff. You all made my day immeasurably better. Thank you!

**The Gringotts of bookshops** Hidden on the third floor of Hatchards is an "old books" room. The volumes range from rare 18th century first editions, worth thousands of pounds, to 1920s Biggles comics selling for only £10s.The curation is excellent. Almost without exception, I always find something new and exciting to take home. Something I would never have thought to search AbeBooks for... and something too old to be found on Amazon.Last week was a particularly enjoyable trip. I found several books I wanted, and Harris (one of the two people running the room) went into the back storeroom to bring out more suggestions. He was infectious with his energy for the books, and then he packed them up for me, walked me onto the street and hailed a cab for me. The type of service you associate with a high-end hotel, not a bookshop.Probably the best bookshop in London!
