The tables at the entrance look like a bar, not a restaurant, and every time people come in it gets cold. The menu is short and the portions are small. I expected something betterVegetarian options: Very basic

Firstly and most importantly the food is delicious! We were restricted to vegetarian options because of our guests (I'm normally non-veg and wish I had tried those) We tried most things on the menu which catered to this and suggestions were given. My wife and I had taken her aunt and uncle out for his birthday. The head of house Santosh was very welcoming and friendly. Had a lovely time and really nice food...thank you, we'll be coming to try the rest of the menu soon!

Each dish bursts with bold flavors and innovative combinations, showcasing the chef's mastery of Indian cuisine with a modern twist. Standouts include the melt-in-your-mouth lamb chops, crispy kale chaat, and the unforgettable black daal. Vegetarian options are equally impressive, with the beetroot chops and paneer makhani earning high praise.

Love gunpowder the food it always top notch, well spiced and interesting. The mixed grill was delicious especially the prawns that were charred but juicy. Loved the lamb chop and venison doughnuts: the special of the beef rib was Devine so tender. All delicious and fab cocktails too. The desert menu was a bit limited. Service was very good, we had to turn around but they manage this really nicelyVegetarian options: The pumpkin was excellent as was the sage paneer

I'm not sure what's happened to Gunpowder, but it has been a shadow of itself since the glory days at Tower Bridge. After a disappointing experience in Spitalfields about a year ago, I decided to give Gunpowder another chance at its Soho restaurant.Unfortunately, despite really wanting to enjoy it, the experience was the same as Spitalfields. There is no longer any depth of flavour in most of the dishes, and the food comes out with the feeling it has been mass produced, rather than crafted carefully with passion.Take the Gunpowder Chaat for example, ruined by overly sickly sweet tamarind sauce. The soft shell crab was ok, but the sauce reminded me of a Mediterranean ragu rather than Goa.I was particularly disappointed with the beef short rib special, with a sauce devoid of any complex flavour, just a basic gravy. It's such a shame because the service continues to be excellent, but totally let down by average food.

Had a very pleasant experience in resturant, staff was very courteous.Exceptional service. The food quality, taste was also great.

Food lacked flavour and depth. The soft shell crab was limp and tired and covered in what seemed to be a sweet Mediterranean sauce, which was odd. The chaat reminded me of a student dish I used to make. The lamb was the only plate that wasn?t below average (and even this was cold). All in all a disappointing experience for anyone who appreciates food.

Half the food was very good, other dishes were distinctly average. I noted an allergy (cross contamination is fine) with the server he seemed very relaxed about it. When I ask what I could eat safely from the dishes we ordered he said "chicken and paneer and rice". He later said "this should be ok" but as far as I can tell he didn't discuss with the chef properly so be aware if you are going. Food is ok, I would go again, but not rush back when there is so many other good restaurants in the area.

I really have mixed feelings about this interesting Indian restaurant. My friend & I walked in without a reservation and the manager did his best to squeeze us in. The set up is very much a French bistrot - very tightly packed tiny tables. The table we were shown to was simply too small for two full bodied gents & we really didn't want to join the conversations of fellow diners. So we asked if we could sit at a sort of bar on high stools. Which was OK until they squeezed two young ladies next to us and inevitably we ended up chatting as they asked us what we were nibbling at (eating would be too generous a word here). If the idea was to promote speed dating here then they achieved their objective - just...We were then provided with the menu and I must admit, my heart sank. The choice was very different from a more classical English style Indian restaurant. Very special, exotic descriptions of mainly small dishes with large prices. My friend and I gulped and decided to share the following - Gunpowder Chat, Spicy venison doughnut, Chettinad duck, pork ribs & Sag Paneer. We also had two, half pint small glasses of draft lager (40 ft Brewery Disco lager) at 4.50 quid each. The food was nice but we only had very modest small portions.Service was quick, friendly and efficient but we left wondering where to go next to eat that evening...

It?s not an Indian place to eat. The food is bland, the staff exceptionally rude and poor quality of service. If there?s a hype then definitely not worth it,

Great experience in this converted pub.For us as a family that like to share dishes, this was a great menu.A fine selection of dishes and they catered exceptionally well for one of our party with dietary requirements.Don't look past the egg curry masala or french bean pakura!Dietary restrictions: One of our party is non dairy and no sugar.Dairy was very well explained with a chart tracking ingredients.Sugar being an unusual one was quickly understood and still left lots of options on the table.

I?ve got to say, the food and service here was excellent, but it?s over priced. You get 1 portion of everything and the portions are mostly small. The concept is good, they do a few things differently which we really liked, some of the curry sauces were delicious. We tried:-Gunpowder Chat (served Luke warm, not to my taste)Tandoori chicken chop (1 small portion but delicious)Egg curry masala (2 boiled eggs slices in half with masala sauce on top, nice but expensive for what it was)Spicy venison doughnut (tasted good but expensive)Mustard malai broccoli (tasted nice but very expensive for a piece of broccoli in a curry sauce)Barnsley lamb chop (delicious, very expensive for 1 chop)Portion of rice (small bowl)This might seem a lot but the portions are single portions and small. For two of us it wasn?t enough, so we ordered a couple of extra portions. No bread available with your food ? Only rice. I thought this a little strange, especially for cleaning up the delicious curry sauces, but this is their concept, no bread. The thing that is fantastic is the rum bread & butter pudding, definitely worth trying, and at £8 it seemed worth it.All in all, we had two small lagers each and the above, and the bill was £158.00. In my opinion it?s massively over priced. I?m sorry guys, it was nice but doesn?t stack up value wise for us.Better portions or reduced prices and we would return.

I recently visited the place with my family on February 25th. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, from its taste to its presentation, especially the ghevar and Bharwan Mirch. The staff's courtesy was exceptional. I will definitely recommend it to my friends and closed ones.
