Stopped by Giraffe Southbank after a walk by the river. The vibe is casual and lively, with plenty of choice on the menu. The duck gyoza were a nice start, and the katsu curry ? one of their signatures ? was hearty and comforting. My friend had the Rodeo burger, which was big, smoky and satisfying. Service was friendly, prices fair, and it?s a good spot if you?re after something easy and varied near the Royal Festival Hall.

Didn't have to wait to be seated which was good. Ordered fish and chips it was average nothing special. I would say the portion was a decent size. It was a bit noisy as it was school holidays and there were quite a few families with loud kids, but wasn't an issue.

We stopped by after visiting The London Eye, and came back later in the week to eat again! Excellent food (the edamame is what brought ME back!) and friendly service. The outside seating was perfect for August.

I had the chicken kebab, my son the fish & chips and the rest chips & steak. Presentation was great and the view by the Thames is astonishing. Service was good but the kebab was dry, 3 people in our table ordered the steaks and they all agreed that it didn?t taste right for some reason, hence I dropped a star.

Great indoor and outside seating with no wait 8pm Monday evening. Service was excellent and attentive. Really liked the staff here. They also have ice for water! Ordered Fish & chips and the chicken kabab, both were very good. Would be happy to come here again. Kid friendly too.

Nice venue, helpful staff but a rather disappointing meal.

It?s an unfortunate event that my friend?s food got a piece of plastic (bag??) in her plate. This is unsanitary in any basic standards of food. So be careful when you come have food here. Be mindful of what you are eating.
The manager offered 15% discount to the meal and provided a take-away for my friend.

Giraffe has a menu with broad variety of food. In our case we had multiple plates of Asian food and a burger. The location at the South Bank is great. Ordering and payment now happens through a tablet which is placed on each table. Service now only exists as waiters bringing food. Although this is agreably a faster method, the human interaction is missed - in my eyes one of the reasons you go to a restaurant.
The food itself was OK.

We had a really unpleasant experience at Giraffe. As a family with a toddler in a stroller, we were shocked by how unwelcoming and rude the staff were. Upon arrival, we were asked to remove the stroller not just move it slightly aside where it wouldn?t be in anyone?s way, but to place it far away or completely change our table, even though the space was clearly not busy and the stroller wasn?t causing any obstruction.
It felt as though they didn?t want us there at all, and their attitude made that very clear. We ended up leaving and won?t be returning. It?s very disappointing to see a place that claims to be family-friendly treat parents this way. Definitely not recommended for anyone visiting with young children.

? HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE FOR FAMILIES AT GIRAFFE SOUTHBANK???
We tried to visit yesterday around 2pm with our group of six adults, a toddler, and two prams with sleeping newborns. The restaurant had plenty of seating both inside and outside, so we kindly requested an indoor table due to a nearby event with loud music. A waitress led us in, and that?s unfortunately where our experience soured.
We were greeted by a man?presumably the manager?who repeatedly asked how many we were, despite us clearly saying several times and explaining we needed the prams and standing as a group in front of him. He spoke around us rather than to us, treating us more like a logistical challenge than guests. When we offered to leave if it was too much trouble, he waved us toward tables and began rearranging them with noticeable reluctance.
The seating layout was awkward, and after placing prams at either end, we were told one had to be moved. We politely suggested shifting the tables slightly to the right to a clear gap nearby which he had started to make, which would accommodate the pram and avoid blocking the walkway?respecting what may have been fire regulations. Despite acknowledging this, the manager continued to repeat himself rudely and stood back unhelpfully while we began moving the tables ourselves. At this point several members of the group now felt uncomfortable with his manner.
The lack of warmth and welcome led us to abandon our visit. One sympathetic waiter did apologize as we left, sharing that he has children and understood how we were feeling. He even acknowledged that the manager is often rude and uninviting to families...
As someone who's visited other Giraffe branches and had lovely experiences, this felt like the exception. But if you're dining out with children, I strongly recommend steering clear of this location. Giraffe brands itself as family-friendly?this branch needs serious retraining and, in my opinion, new management to live up to that promise.
We ended up at Las Iguanas nearby and had one of the best meals and customer service experiences, which I?ve reviewed separately. A complete contrast?and a reminder that family-friendly dining can and should feel welcoming from the moment you walk through the door.
