I recently visited the JD Store near Barking Town Centre, and unfortunately, my experience was not very positive.
From the moment you walk in, the staff is usually standing around, chatting with each other, and they do not approach customers to offer help. If you need assistance, you have to go up to them yourself, as they won?t come to you first.
The store manager was not particularly friendly and didn?t seem willing to help. When I asked about a specific jacket size, he immediately said it was sold out. I then asked him to check online, and suddenly, he found that my size was available in one store, and a larger size in another location. This made it clear that he simply didn?t want to put in the effort to assist me in the first place.
What I found even more unpleasant was his unnecessary comment about my size. Despite knowing that my usual size is M or even S, he insisted that I would probably need an XL?as if he was judging my body size without any real basis. In reality, I had tried the exact same jacket in the U.S., and size S fit me fine, though slightly tight in the shoulders. I specifically wanted to compare S and M again, but instead of helping, he acted as if he knew better and tried to convince me that I wouldn?t fit in a smaller size. I found this quite insulting and unprofessional?especially considering I was wearing a winter coat (which was an M from another brand), making it even harder to judge my actual size.
Another major issue is that this store has no fitting room. This means that trying on clothes is practically impossible. How is someone supposed to try on a sweater? The only options are to undress in the middle of the store in front of other customers or buy the item, take it home, and return it if it doesn?t fit?which is very inconvenient.
Additionally, the store is quite small but packed with an overwhelming amount of clothing, making it difficult to navigate. The atmosphere is not welcoming, and their discounts are only on items that don?t look great, while popular products remain full price.
Another downside is that they close at 6 PM, which is very inconvenient for those who want to shop after work. By the time you finish work and arrive, the store is already closed.
Overall, my experience here was far from pleasant. The customer service is lacking, the atmosphere is not friendly, there are no fitting rooms, and the store layout is impractical. I would rate this store a 2/5 and would not recommend it unless you?re absolutely sure about your size and don?t need any help from the staff.

I visited JD on Sunday and had the pleasure of being assisted by Anjahlina. Despite being very busy, she was incredibly friendly and helpful, serving everyone with a beautiful smile. Her kindness and professionalism stood out, and she truly made my shopping experience enjoyable. Thank you, Anjahlina, for your excellent service!

I was served by a funny team today. Polite and quick to get my sisters trainers. Came in and they told me about the Status app. I never heard of the app. Downloaded it then and there. The staff there all got along very well. Which is nice to see. I was happy with my purchase and the service they provided. Might have to go more often. Not to buy anything but to banter with the staff.
