Eat here on Saturday evening. Lovely ambiance and the service was excellent. I had the sea bass which was cooked to perfection. My husband had the liver which was nice and lots of it!! Would highly recommend

A cozy historic restaurant on Hgh Street. A central location. It seems to be a hub for all kinds of activities. There's a nice menu and a full bar. Tons of beer and ales to choose from. Our server was terrific. She helped us find a gluten free dinner. Our meals were fair. My husband's pork was super dry and hard to chew. My ham and eggs was super salty and cold. But, THE FRIES!!!! Smoking hot and perfectly cooked and salted. No lie, we were scraping the fry crumbs off the bottom of the plate. We liked our wine too.

We had the fish and chips and braised been brisket and both were delicious. However, service was a bit slow and we had to initiate asking to take the order. And also, when we chased for our food, the waitress came back and said it has only been 24 minutes and the food are prepared fresh. I thought that was an unnecessary comment

Sadly, there was a large, noisy party next to our table, and they made the experience unpleasant, not least due to the foul language.

Very unhappy experience at the blackbear,on leaving after meal I was approached by the staff asking me if I had paid my bill which I had before eating it,it was terribly embarrassing in front of other patrons they should have checked before making me feel like a thief .very bad customer service no apology either would never recommend

Stopped off here after a day out on the motorbike. They managed to squeeze us in on a fairly busy Saturday eve. Food was really nice, highly recommend the Beef and Ale pie. Service was great and the pub is really nice with beams etc and a nice vibe. Will be calling in again.

Lovely pub with a homely feel, all homemade food cooked to perfection. The beef and ale pie was delicious, plenty of meat inside with a fluffy pastry top. Dog friendly too which was perfect for our two pooches.
