Unexpected guests meant we were looking for a late afternoon Sunday lunch?.. and The George did not disappoint, carvery until 5.30pm, the food was awesome, plentiful, with the service being second to none especially ?Stu? the young lad who was having his first taster of waiting tables, and managing customers expectations, a few more sessions and he?ll have them eating out of his hands.
I have to say we will definitely be back.

This is a lovely place to stay. They made us feel so welcome. The staff are friendly as are the locals. The rooms are clean and well equipped with tea, coffee, kettle, hairdryer and even a fan. They are checking in to see if you need top ups on anything and always around. The pub being opposite is where we had our breakfast which was amazing. Full English, toast, cereal and lots of coffee. The pub also does meals if you wish to stay on site. There is also a good size car park too though it shares with the pub. Plus dog friendly.
The only downside for me personally was there was only one vegetarian option of pasta on the pub menu.
This is a wonderful place to stay. We had a lovely time here, chatting with the locals and I would happily recommend it.

My partner, myself and our 2 dogs have just spent 3 fabulous nights at Millingbrook lodge and without doubt this is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed in recent years. The rooms are spacious and maintained to a very high standard. The staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming and the pub is well stocked, with a lovely menu and a great range of beers and wines.
We cannot recommend this place enough - whether as a stop-over , or for exploring the beautiful surrounding forest and countryside.

We booked three family rooms via Booking.com and confirmed directly. When we arrived we were informed that there were only two rooms available, as the accommodation was overbooked. The staff tried their best to accommodate us. The food was good.

Rooms: Pleasant bedroom but en-suite shower room was a little disappointing.
Nearby activities: Puzzlewood on a quiet day was fascinating. The Dean Railway with cream tea was great fun.
Lydney Harbour has an interesting history and some nice walks.

Went for a carvery and food was okay, not warm enough really. The veg was watery but potatoes were good. Our waitress didn?t seem that enthusiastic and was quite abrupt. Don?t mind paying £16 per person for carvery but would expect much more from the overall experience if we pay that much.

A nice place to stay in the Forest of Dean. A real community pub with some nice history. I would particularly recommend the burger.
Rooms: We had a dog friendly family room which had everything that we needed.
Nearby activities: I love going cycling in the Forest of Dean. The steam train is also worth a visit.

Had a lovely carvery meal here. The food was fab, service good and beer perfect. What more can you ask for?

Stayed here back in February with my partner visiting her friends and family. Highlights of the stay in the George were the delicious homemade pies in the restaurant and friendly service from the staff. I'd have liked a little background music with my dinner but the flavour of the food soon cast that to one side. Room was nicely appointed with exposed stonework and plenty of space. Watched one of the six nations games in the bar while we were there too and lots of scope for that to be a fun sports venue.

Went to dine in at the restaurant. The food was lovely and the girl with the tattoos who served us was mega. She was really sweet, welcoming and patient. Give her a raise!
The garlic mushroom was absolutely lovely. Highly recommend!
