Despite a hygiene rating of 5, this store displayed very poor hygiene awareness during my visit. Wash there an hour and no handwashing or sanitisation despite preparing multiple types of dishes and touching the payment system which is touch screens and harbours a lot of bacteria. One server kept touching his backside to pull his trousers up, put his fingers in his mouth and then crushed meringue between those same fingers without washing them. Very poor. Ive reported them to Southend council hygiene.

Today, I had the pleasure of visiting the Wimpy located in Victoria Plaza, Southend-on-Sea. This visit was particularly nostalgic for me, as I used to work as a manager at a Wimpy back in the mid-70s. Seeing the familiar menu brought back many fond memories.
The restaurant is managed by a very hospitable Greek Cypriot gentleman who is also the franchisee. He was incredibly welcoming and made the visit even more special. Despite having had a five-course meal at another restaurant earlier, my wife and I couldn't resist treating ourselves to dessert at Wimpy. The desserts were excellent, just as I remembered them. The service was top-notch, and the overall experience was fantastic.
If you're ever in Southend-on-Sea, I highly recommend stopping by this Wimpy for a trip down memory lane and excellent service.

I have used Wimpy a lot over the last 50+ years, the food is still a bit different and nice, but I visited yesterday at lunch time the place is quite big but it was virtually empty, I ordered an all day breakfast, one bender sausage, 2 rashers of bacon, 1 egg half a tomato and a small ot of beans, padded out with a large portion of fries, at about £10 I had a cappuccino with it total bill £12.20, there prices are just too high, you can get a good Sunday roast in a gastro pub for less. The lack of customers shows that something is wrong.
