I am leaving this review on behalf of my wife, who has been a regular patient at this opticians for years. Unfortunately, there have been a number of serious issues that I feel people should be aware of.
The most concerning is that despite attending twice a year for eye tests and contact lens checks, they failed to detect a partial retinal detachment. We now know this must have been present for years, as there is scarring. It was only discovered when my wife paid £250 for a consultation at a laser eye surgery clinic, where it was identified straight away. Missing something this serious is unacceptable and could easily have cost her her sight.
On a separate visit, my wife went in with three straightforward questions:
1. To confirm her contact lens subscription was paused.
2. To check how much she still owed on her glasses payment plan.
3. To ask how to request her data and records.
Shockingly, the staff were unable to help with any of these basic requests.
I am also very unhappy with how the glasses payment plan has been handled. My wife has learning difficulties around finances and gets easily confused, yet she was placed on a rolling plan which starts a new agreement before the old one is even cleared. After more than a year, she still hasn?t paid it off. I feel this is completely immoral and takes advantage of her.
Between the missed diagnosis, the lack of basic customer support, and the questionable financial practices, I cannot recommend this practice. Patients should be able to trust their opticians to look after their eye health and to treat them fairly ? in my wife?s case, that trust was badly let down.

I have been visiting Vision Express in Southend for probably 20 years.
I have always found the service top rate and whilst there seems to be a fair turnover of staff over the years, I've never had any issues. Always very respectful, informed and helpful.

Completely professional from an online booking to the reception. The optician was extremely knowledgeable and very professional. The lady who went through the process of creating the new glasses was extremely helpful and professional. A great experience.
