Apparently everyone banks online hence the reduced opening hours. This does not seem to be reflected by the enormous queues and the amount of time that you have to stand in them. That said if you have not died by the time you get to the desk, the staff are polite and pleasant.

Popped in around 1pm with the whiff to check if an old Abbey National ISA was still active. There were no staff to be seen. The counters are now hidden behind a wall and of the 4 or 5 teller spaces available, only 2 were filled. The queue was 8 deep and after 15 minutes, we hadn't moved.Two staff appeared from offices. Looked at me and scurried away. We left.This was a useful reminder as to why my whiff no longer banks at Santander.

Just spent over an hour trying to reactivate my 4 kids trust accounts, closed after 2 covid years of no payments made, absolutely nightmare, no more payments books either for the kids! And still all 4 accounts blocked! Left so angry, more angry knowing I have to go back and sit for longer than an hour to try and either withdraw all their savings or somehow get them open and active!

I went into Southend Santander branch today, The lady who was on shift today 11/11/2021 on the door was very rude and had attitude for no reasons what so ever, i was being very respectful all i wanted was some advice and she was soo abrubt and did not seem to care at all, Why do a job if you hate it so much or hate dealing with customers?

What a complete and utter farce. My son wanted to open an adult account, changing it from his childs account. So we call in at the Southend Branch. No problem we will send out a new card. New card arrived first transaction, a transfer into his account is rejected. So we have to journey down again to the branch for an explanation in the middle of tier 4 covid restrictions, which i am not happy about as i am vulnerable. Only to be told this account is "dormant" and cannot be used. and that a card should never have been issued on a dormant account. A new account will have to be set up. But the ID used previously won't be enough. he will need two forms of ID. All we have is a passport but it has expired a month ago, and his provisional license so we have to return home and then return. We spend 45 further minutes added to the hour previously wasted. Only to be told after waiting that the passport must be in date. The person then explains as my son is now completely an utterly exasperated that he can have his money out of his account. Which i thought was strange as, according to them he hasn't yet proven that, this account is his, despite showing a passport and provisional driving license, and Santander issuing him with a debit card already. apparently he has to provide things like a disabled blue badge ID and a dozen other things most 18 year olds are unlikely to have. So now he has given up. maybe one day he will have the things he needs to prove who he is, despite Santander already acknowledging he is who he is via issuing him a card already!.So you are 18 and plan using Santander for your lifelong business transactions that may span decades and provide Santander with many hundreds of thousands of pounds investment. And this is the response you get for that.
