This is a well-stocked and organised store with plenty of choice of high quality produce and products. There's some home ware stuff and a small cafe. Lots of parking.

Good. But way too expensive, Now minimum amount to spend to get parking back risen to £15! .
Sorry waitrose but it's free parking at Tesco and a lot cheaper.
Also Waitrose fresh fruit very poor now.

Conveniently located for pedestrians but no incentives for them. Adversely, car park tickets can be discounted. Heavily packaged produce that cannot be recycled. Poor stock replenishment, certain days items like salads and pitta bread do not exist.
Had numerous issues at self checkout with absent staff and very rude staff leaving some customers waiting because they've no idea who has been waiting longest. Two of which can be very abrupt and patronising. One staff member trying to verify the age of 5 customers doesn't work. Adversely, some very friendly staff and some produce very good. I've been shopping here on and off for about 40 years but after a high during the pandemic, it has hit a low, forcing me elsewhere.

Whilst walking round the store tonight (between 20:40 and 21:00, 19/04/2025), I noticed the fish counter had been left in a quite frankly vile, unclean, unhygienic state. There was grime / fish blood all around / on the front of the scales, the glass was generally dirty still. Something had been sprayed on the front piece of glass and just left to dry i.e. not wiped down. I'm sure if you check the relevant COSHH info for the cleaning spray you use, it will not tell you to spray it all along a pane of glass and just leave it to dry without wiping. There was no member of staff at any of the counters for me to speak to, and they had apparently closed almost 2 hours ago according to the sticker on the glass and your website.
It's easy to sometimes miss stuff like this when stores are very busy so on my way out of the store (it was past 21:00 by this point), I asked the large heavyset lady near the doors if a manager was about so I could let them know about an issue. I think she said she was the 'store manager tonight' and as such I pointed out what I'd noticed. I made it clear I wasn't making a complaint but just letting them know as a courtesy.
She was immediately incredibly confrontational and abruptly interrupted / spoke over me telling me that they had only just closed the fish counter down and that someone was still cleaning it. I explained to her that the counter closed at 19:00 and that there was absolutely no one there cleaning. She then told me that they had only just sprayed everything down and that they had to come back to finish cleaning it. I explained that the spray had quite clearly dried on the glass and that this could not be true. She essentially told me I was wrong and then said the person meant to be cleaning had been moved to another task (she pointed at a young lad wheeling flower displays inside). She kept contradicting herself, one second saying they were still cleaning and then saying they weren't because as the manager she could assign them to another task.
Her rude, standoffish unprofessional tone continued for another minute or so and I kept pointing out that this is a basic issue with cleanliness and that food counters shouldn't be left that way. She at no point acknowledged the issue and continued to insist I was wrong and that they had only just shut the counter and only just sprayed it all down. It felt like she was telling me to 'not tell them how to do their job'. I wasn't trying to do this, just trying to point it out.
I was quite frankly taken away and baffled by the completely unnecessary attitude and vile tone of voice she used towards me. I was politely pointing the issue out, all she needed to do was equally politely acknowledge my concern and assure me it would be cleaned. I don't know why she started to argue with me. The whole thing was so bizarre.
I asked her for her name and then just walked away. I'm really confused why she displayed such an attitude towards me.
Needless to say I will be escalating the issue to JL management and also will notify local authority environmental health for their awareness.
