Left hanging on phone at saffron walden branch 11 minutes, so I thought it was a mistake and hung up and tried again. I?m still hanging on and it?s been 14 mins, both times it clicked early on as if I was getting through, but oh no awful music again. Customer service is crap. Wonder if it?s better in branch ?? 17 mins now and they say give us a call to discuss a query. What an absolute joke. They say they can?t cope with all the new business! Then employ more people you absolute con artists, just like the rest of banks nowadays. Only interested in money! No customer service. They couldn?t care less. It?s not the staff it?s the top! ? over 35 minutes waiting for a pick up now! They have no intention of taking any calls! Disgusting! Christine Wray not Gary reviewing!

Nationwide make a big thing out f not shutting branches. That might be true but they never open them. Saffron Walden branch seems to be closed more often than it?s open.

Nationwide are forcing us to change our passbook accounts over to a card wallet system but won't allow us to book an appointment to get it done. We turned up at the branch today to be told that they were so busy that they couldn't guarantee when we could be seen. We were told that they now have so many more customers who had moved from other banks in the town that have closed that the staff simply can't cope with demand. Apparently Head Office won't let them book appointments for transactions like ours and the Branch Manager is powerless to do anything about it. There are obvious solutions to both problems, i.e. by offering drop-in appointments am and scheduled appointments pm they could better manage their workload and offer a better service to customers; and they should review/reverse the reduction in opening days from 5 to 3 if they cannot cope with extra customer demand generated by new business. Magically the non-counter assistant became available as we were about to leave the branch but couldn't deal with our account changes because of a computer system fault. I have every sympathy with the staff who must be heartily sick of dealing with disgruntled customers like me every day but they seem reticent to pass feedback up the line and are not confident that management would listen if they did. Hence this review.

Tried to call to make an enquiry that would have taken 5 seconds to answer. Was put on hold for over 30 minutes. Gave up. Poor show.

no problems with service but with no Saturday opening, it leaves me unable to visit branch

Useless opening hours that are essentially only whilst the majority of the country are at work and then close just before work finishes. I never understand why most banks are still stuck in the 1950s when it comes to opening times, and then close the branches down blaming the limited number of customers who visit them.

The staff don?t know their own banking systems! I was trying the make a series of transfers on successive days in branch but their standard advice was merely ?you can set up the daily transfers yourself online, but we cannot do this in branch for you unless you come in every day!? but that was not feasible for me.Well, for the benefit of the staff in this branch, you CANNOT set up daily transfers online, as they suggested you could. The only options are weekly, monthly, 6 monthly etc.More staff training needed!!

Open 4 hours each weekday and CLOSED on Saturday.Hardly what you'd call providing a key service to the community. in these strange times.
