Left hanging on phone at saffron walden branch 11 minutes, so I thought it was a mistake and hung up and tried again. I’m still hanging on and it’s been 14 mins, both times it clicked early on as if I was getting through, but oh no awful music again. Customer service is crap. Wonder if it’s better in branch ?? 17...

Nationwide make a big thing out f not shutting branches. That might be true but they never open them. Saffron Walden branch seems to be closed more often than it’s open.
