I had a Sunday roast and it was great . The whole menu looks really good and I would recommend eating there .

Used to love going to this pub! While i dont think that the atmosphere has changed that much, unfortunately the food has?Used to love getting fish and chips here, but now the fish is extremely oily, bland but somehow overly lemony??the chips were great tho! Additionally, the burger was very bland as well?I think the (new?) chefs/kitchen need to work on perfecting the meals, as they were a big disappointment. Not even mentioning the long wait, we were told the wait would be about 30min, it ended up being 1 hour and 20min, for expensive, oily and bland food.
Additionally, i understand that there is new staff, however please teach them how to pour a pint on their first day, as it really isn?t that hard. The staff is very nice and friendly but clearly needs more training.

A lovely local pub on the picturesque Quay. Great food, great service, chilled out atmosphere. We will be back.

I'll be honest, I was totally disappointed.
Firstly I only came here because I had some Greene King vouchers and the pub looked to be in a nice location.
We got here to find out it's no longer a Greene King pub, placed our order, 45 minutes later, still no food, went back in the pub to complain, was told food is a few minutes away, another 10 minutes later the food came out, but the sausages on my missus breakfast were raw and the toast was missing, eventually we got the attention of the manager, toast and sausages were replaced and the sausages wasn't very nice.
Extra disappointed as we'd driven 40 miles to get here.
I'd imagine with the kitchen working properly and it was still a Greene King pub, where I could of spent my vouchers, it'd been a lovely experience next to the the river

Went on a Fri evening and they had a great guitar duo playing. Went back again Sun evening for a roast. Warm welcome from the staff, very attentive. Have read the recent reviews about new and untrained staff - well they must have had a crash course in customer service as we enjoyed both our evenings and service and food were both great. Good luck to the new owners!

Quite nice but not as good as expected from previous reviews. Lovely location, but pub was a bit scruffy and noisy with the background music too loud. Food took a long time to arrive with other people getting their food before us even though we were the first to order. The food was decent.
Would go there again for a drink but not to eat.

New owners have taken over which was a lovely pub, not now! New staff as all the others had walked out on day 2, bad menu expensive and boring, badly organised on four visits they only had beer to serve on one occasion, horrible furniture, staff need training as they simply don?t have a clue.. ect ect?. You can see a very empty pub right now as most of the customers have fled to the other pubs in Wivenhoe..?

I visited the pub after a year and heard the management was changed, please keep things simple, I got it that you r making food from scratch, but i don't think it's a viable option and please atleast make it edible, longer wait times, inexperienced staff, rude and lazy management, There isn't a single nice thing about the pub now apart from the fact it's quayside. And please train the staff on how to pour a beer properly. Why did they change the perfect management to something like this ??
Please if you cant cook, just make it a bar and tapas .
Final verdict :- Worst food, Lousy drinks, Horrible management

Disappointed! Expensive for what you got. Pork roast, meat was lovely and tender, crackling looked like slugs and everything else coming out a packet, reflected in lack of flavour. Steak and mushroom pie was burnt to a crisp and bent fork getting through crust. Not sure about the side salad or courgettes, didn't know? Staff were very attentive. Wouldn't go again.

Frustrating experience last night.
New owner in place with staff who clearly haven't been trained. Went to the Black Buoy Instead and had a wonderful evening and burger.

Absolutely awful!
New owners not a clue, orders mixed up, left on empty table, until sorted out - flies on food and then served to customer! Another patron did warn food recipient.
Food waited 45 mins.
