We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon without a booking and found a table in the pub side of the restaurant (though Restaraunt was half empty). We ordered from the fixed menu (2 courses for £37/3 courses £42) and chose starter or tomato soup and side of focaccia for my partner (they would not allow a starter to be swapped for a lesser side - hmm..). Starters were ok, though no salt or pepper were provided (and it definitely needed a boost!). Proper needed to be swapped out again as it was dirty & clogged..
After securing some absent condiments and finishing the unimpressive soup the beef roast arrived. The beef was outstanding and really was the highlight of the whole meal. The potatoes were Aunt Bessie?s style pre-made which, for a £37 for a 2 course meal was surprising! My partner?s burger bun was hard & the burger overcooked/dry.
The staff seemed tired and unmotivated - quite the contrast to the previous experiences we?ve had.
The sparkling water I requested came without bubbles but the bill suggested otherwise! So? ~£95 spent for a 2 courses meal with no alcohol. London prices for average Essex effort. This old gem has certainly lost its shine.

We went some ago for Sunday lunch.
The quality of the food was excellent, that is,apart from the beef, which came from the see through breed of cow.The portion sizes were very small, the selection of vegetables that came with the roast was also very poor, for example pureed carrots served with carrots? Then of course there is the price.

Lovely pub, gorgeous outside space, great for families with a small playground and large green area. Didn't eat but menu looked delicious

We had a private room.
Food was ok/ very nice but portion size is beyond a joke.
Everything was OK but I expected better. Waited an age for a drink from the bar on arrival.
Watch out for a charge if you want to bring your own cake.

Went for Friday Birthday lunch. Got a lovely card from owners. We were sitting inside but asked to move onto the terrace as such a beautiful day. It was no problem for waiting staff, so polite and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious. My veg dish was one of the best dishes I have had, sweet potatoes, carrots with pesto and the sauces were amazing flavours. Great service, great good, perfect lunch time birthday. Thank you, we will be back.

Galvin Green Man in Chelmsford is a cozy pub set in a charming old building with warm, inviting lighting. The place is clean and well maintained, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The menu offers classic British dishes with a modern touch. The haddock was one of the best I have had in London. The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure guests feel welcome. Prices reflect the quality and care in the food. The bathrooms are clean and well kept. Overall, it?s a great spot for a quality meal in a comfortable setting.

Such a little gem - from the setting, service to the food it was lovely. Thought it was well priced for what we ate, nicely present, elevated pub food. Good portions and super tasty! Loved it !
