I would have scored this branch higher as on the occasions that i do go in branch the staff are helpful and very polite.
However my score is a reflection of their ATMs and not the staff. A couple of weeks ago I went to pay money in using their ATM. Because there was a queue on the outside ATM I went to use the in store one. The machine kept spitting my money out. So after about 5 attempts I used the teller service. Much easier and quicker.
Fast forward to Tuesday 13th May.
During my lunch break I needed to pay in £500. This was needed as I was going away on the 14th May so the cash needed to be in my account for my travels.
The branch is closed on a Tuesday so I had no choice but to use the outside ATM.
Now if you know Grays you know it's not the most safest place to be standing with £500 cash trying to feed it into an ATM especially when like the one inside its spitting thw money back out at you. It was almost like a comedy sketch. First about £200 was returned then another hundred in fact it all came back apart from £5 after several othe tries I eventually managed to get £110 in by then a large queue was behind me so gave up.
I tried again later at around 8pm hoping against all hope it might work. But only managed £60 this was even after trying to feed the machine 1 £20 mote at a time.
So now instead of heading towards the airport at 9.30 as planned I have to wait until the branch opens at 10am to pay the money in then make a mad dash to the airport and hope I get there in time as check in is 11am.
My advise to the powers that be is. If you're not opening your branches Mon to Fri/Sat make sure your ATMs are properly maintained and serviced. There should be no reason at all why they should reject money unless it's counterfeit. I will also add the man who was I front of me at the same ATM had the same issue

Got money paid into my bank they didn?t allow me to withdraw it they said I?ve to close my account send it to another bank to get access to it did that but guess what ? It didn?t say to send to another bank but to withdraw the money via check that they send to my address so there?s proof that they say anything to you just to get rid off you also has been more then a week and I?ve still not received the cheque was not able to pay my rent I told my landlord that I will have to pay it next week since the bank in grays didn?t give me MY MONEY
I will never trust any bank with my money anymore also I advise people not to trust banks with your money just keep it in cash safe at home don?t trust banks they will not allow you to withdraw YOUR money they act like it?s theirs

To be fair had nothing but issues with nationwide can't wait until I sort my card out and wipe all my funds out the account and close my account

I was helped by Susan today at the Grays branch over the phone. Customer service experiences don't get any better than this. With 35 years experience serving customers in store for the same company, there was simply nothing she didn't know, an encyclopedia of knowledge, it was a pleasure to chat with a friendly master at work. Grays site is now closed two days during the working week but the staff do now serve people over the phone on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today was Susan's first day supporting people over the phone lines, a very smart move. My experience of Nationwide are rather good on the whole, but Susan is in a league of her own.

Must say spoke to a member of staff over the phone called leanne with regarding a very embarrassing incident in the Basildon branch. She listen intently and very understanding I can honestly say she is a credit to nationwide Grays. It?s a shame that Basildon supervisors should take a lead out of Leanne?s book.Wanted to draw out some money from my mums account to have some work carried out as I have lasting power of attorney. Only to be refused even though I had two forms of ID only to be told they wanted invoice first to prevent scams.
