It is a perfect place to spend an overnight stay. Good restaurant with very friendly staff and service. I strongly recommend the trio of pies. The hotel offers a friendly welcome in reception. The room is basic, but the bed is comfortable, and the room is spotless. The only thing I'd ask for is what travel lodge offers in terms of a comfortable chair to sit in to read a book and enjoy a cup of tea.

Friendly welcome, clean rooms, nice atmosphere, great breakfast and the beer in the evening is also perfectly tapped. Also free parking spaces in front of the house. All in all a good place to stay in Colchester with very reasonable value for money.Rooms: spacious and clean

As a constant Premier Inn customer I have experienced for the first time a long power supply issue that lasted several hours. The staff were amazing In dealing with the situation and I can't thank them enough. Thank you Oana/Dana and everyone else for your support .

I have visited this Premier Inn twice this year, both summer and winter, and my review is based on both stays. What I "LIKED" about this hotel:1) A modern 40 inch Samsung TV was provided, plus a separate wall socket below giving access to the TVs HDMI and USB connections.2) Room was clean, spacious and well decorated.3) Good comfy bed with quality linen and a good headboard.4) Everything in bathroom was of acceptable quality and worked.5) Small unit with full length mirror to hang clothes in, this had a clothes rail about 14-15 inches wide, so could hold about 15 to 20 hangers. A small drawer was also at the bottom of the unit.6) Free carpark.7) The bathroom had a good sized wash basin with a soft-water mixer tap that didn't overhang too much, this made it great for washing hair, etc.8) A wall mounted makeup mirror was provided.9) A bath was provided with shower and curtain over. However, I and probably many other people would prefer a walk-in shower with shower tray.10) Good access to major dual carriageways (A12), local shops and facilities.11) Rooms had good soundproofing, with little noise from people nextdoor.12) The hotel corridors were nicely decorated.13) A nice welcoming Christmas Card and box of Milk Tray were left in my room, this was a VERY nice touch.14) All the staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful.15) Extra sachets of tea, coffee, milk and sugar were available on a table opposite reception. This was a great idea!16) Free Wi-Fi, however the free service is very slow.17) Good EE / Asda mobile phone signal. What I "DISLIKED" about this hotel:1) The bath with shower and shower curtain was fine for me, but may not be everyone's taste. The fixed non removable shower head will not be popular either.2) No elevator (lift) onsite, so it can be difficult and tiring for the elderly or those with leg problems to get to the upper floor. Getting your heavy luggage upstairs will be harder.3) A cooked breakfast (bacon & eggs) must be ordered at your table, it's then delivered to your table. I much prefer a self-service method where you walk up and get exactly what need as it gives more freedom of choice and quantities. Me and my wife also found our breakfasts to be a bit undercooked. For example, the fried eggs were still raw on top (indicated by the clear transparent egg white wobbling around on the top) and my wife's black pudding was soft and undercooked too! Not sure why people even eat that horrible blood filled sausage anyway!!!4) The continental breakfast was available as a self-service which was good. However, the range was not as extensive as some hotels I have used.5) The breakfast room (a seperate outside building) was a nice country style design divided into numerous small areas. Many people may like this style, but for me, I much prefer a big modern open plan spacious room filled with lots of natural light. Not really a negative, just a personal preference.6) The bathroom extractor fan was extremely noisy with a high pitch whine. Luckily, the extractor fan had an isolation switch so it could be deactivated when not needed or at night.7) The ONLY heating in the room was a very small wall mounted electric heater (about 18x15 inch in size). Obviously, I did not use this during my summer stay, and it did not work at all during my winter stay, so a small portable plug-in oil filled radiator was provided. The room was warm enough, however outside winter temperatures were about 11 degrees, so not the coldest days to test it with.8) The wall mounted makeup mirror had a light, but it was not very bright. The mirror was also located near the entrance door beside the clothes unit which was the darkest part of the room, with very little natural light. You would probably need to stand up when using the mirror too as it was fixed quite high up.
