Stayed here just one night stopping over to go to a comedy show on our way up to Great Yarmouth for the weekend.Location is brilliant, and coming up the stairs it's in a gorgeous historic building, really has great character.Unfortunately the crux of it is it's probably the worst hotel room I've ever stayed in. Floor was uneven and really disorienting, the bed was a very small double, and slotted in a small gap, which at least you could put your hand against when turning over to stop you falling off. Bathroom extremely dated and not very clean looking. It being on the high street, it's noisy at night if you have a room facing the street which we did. Can't comment on the food or drink as didn't spend much time apart from sleeping there. At the end of the day, it was a cheap place to rest our heads for a night. But absolutely worth spending an extra 20 quid for somewhere nicer.

The room was terrible, the bed what was supposed to be a double was just two single beds put to together and then left with a gap in the middle off the bed. Bed was not comfortable. Stains on the bed sheets. The cleanliness in the room was bad, very dusty, and there was a used razor left inside the wardrobe.

This hotel is in the centre of Colchester near all pubs and Colchester CastleThis establishments rooms are on suite and altohgh is not the poshest place for somebody going to the football at Colchester United it's an ideal couple of nights place to stop at affordable ratesVisited march 2023Visited again 2024Thursday, January 11th, i visited for 3 nights at this hotel. i stopped for the 11th, the 12th, and the 13th.The room was no 23 it was a twin room. There were good coffer makin facilities the tv was good my bed was okay and bathroom good with a okay shower in it been at the back of building the water was a bit weak which affected the shower pressure it was so bad i could not have a shower for the 3 days i was here.?????##?Now another reason poor stars given the reason it did not get 5 stars on my corridor from, about 5 o'clock in the morning i was woken by people walking about. I dont know who they were, but doors banging was bad.At the same time, there was banging outside.I took a picture to show the view from the room and put it on the hotels site.It shows a path to which people use it to get about.##The staff here superb polite and helpfull always on my visits.

I stayed at the Red Lion Hotel for two nights, and my experience was a mix of positives and negatives. The location, right in the heart of Colchester town, is perfect. Across the road, Colchester Castle Park and a variety of restaurants and amenities are conveniently situated. On fireworks day, I got a room at the front, which, though noisy due to a nearby nightclub and high street, had a charming historic feel dating back to 1400. The quirky and cozy atmosphere was enjoyable, but renovations would enhance the overall experience.Returning for a second stay due to competitive pricing, I opted for a back-facing room. Unfortunately, these lacked the historical charm, and the simplicity was accompanied by weak water pressure. I encountered issues with water supply, requiring a room change for a proper shower. The WiFi signal was noticeably weaker in the back rooms compared to the front or lobby areas. The absence of lifts and the need to navigate stairs for both reception and room access proved inconvenient, especially with a baby and pushchair. While the Red Lion Hotel fits a limited budget and staff does their best, customer service isn't a standout feature. Overall, it's a competitively priced option with historical charm, but improvements in amenities and service would enhance the overall guest experience.Food & drinks: Breakfast served plated, I have paid £15 for baby full english and mine.

First of all I'd like to say the breakfast was lovely, the bed was a little lumpy but OK, in a bit of disrepair as the curtains were all torn, radiator in bathroom was disconnected and shower was a bit of a mess, no hot water night of stay and none for shower next morning, staff were great and friendly, the hotel was typical of its age as expected.

Very nice hotel loads of character but right on the High Street which was very noisy as you can imagine. Breakfast was a bit of a let down.Rooms: Dated but cleanNearby activities: Right in the middle of town and everything was in walking distanceNoteworthy details: Very old building dateing back to 1645. Said to be haunted but we saw nothing.

A hotel with historical value. A monumental building from 1465.If you like a modern, white hotel then this is not the place for you.But if you like history and active minds, the red lion is fantastic!!Just look at YouTube, several videos about this hotel.Great location, located in the center (high street). (so more street noise). No excessive luxury.Hotel manager Angela and her team are really great, they ensure that your holiday is unforgettable. No question is too crazy for them, they think along with you.I enjoy going there several times a year.Breakfast; extensive choice and options.

Our company GH Decor have stayed here on many occasions and Angela has always been the perfect host. Nothing is ever too much bother and goes above and beyond to make sure her guests are happy and comfortable. The rooms are excellent and the beds are comfortable. Will definitely stay here again soon.
