A wonderful old building, beautifully restored. The pub was great, the breakfast and the Sunday roast were really good, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely divert here for a peaceful break next time we're heading to Norfolk. Very relaxing and comfortable!

Lovely looking pub with nice outdoor area. Got a few drinks and crisps at the bar. Thought it was a bit expensive for what I got. The perfect English country pub. A thatched roof, a big open fire, log burners and lots of exposed timbers. We serve home made, honest fresh food to a high standard sourced from surrounding area. We have carefully selected wines from a specialist vintners and several beers on draft with regularly changing guest ales.
Positioned mid way on the ancient Icknield Way route it has been used by walkers for 5000 years. We are the highest pub in Essex. Bring the dogs and kids and come and see us.
Dogs allowed in the bar area only. Booking essential. Hours advertised are for the bar only. See our website for restaurant opening hours
