They had a garden party. Great atmosphere.
Unfortunately, Terrible barbecue, filth. .... (Great everything else). Didn't eat from the bar can't comment on that side of things.
My advise : Charge more money and buy better food. People will be happy to pay it, if its good.

Stumbled upon this place on our way home from visiting a local place of interest. Loved it! Great food, great staff and the pub had a lovely feel about it.
Just goes to show that small independently run pubs can work if the staff all make an effort. It really shows her!
Can't wait to go back

We visited the stag after passing it on our way to Ongar garden centre. We were greeted by friendly staff who served us with a smile. The place had a real welcoming feeling and the staff were chatty. We ordered some lunch and it was delicious! The garden area is lovely too! We will definitely be visiting again ?

Do not tell my mum!! But I have got to say this is the best Sunday roast I have ever had. The beef was cooked beautifully and was so tender, the roast potatoes where cooked to perfection lovely crunchy outter with the fluffiest middle. The vegetables where not over cooked and still had a slight crunch just how I like them. Don't get me started on the parsnips these where made into crispy ribbons unbelievable. My eyes where bigger than my belly ordered extra yourkshires but didn't have to as the one that it comes with is nice and big also came with plenty of gravy!! The staff are lovely very friendly. Had a lovely Sunday afternoon. Thank you!! Would highly recommend will definitely be a Sunday lunch regular after this ? and such good value for money.

We found this pub by chance, on our way from Doncaster to Dover, after we were rerouted, and we were glad we did.
It's a great pub. When we arrived, we asked if they were still doing food, and they kept the kitchen open a bit longer to help us out
We had a fishfinger sandwich, and a tuna and cheese ciabatta, and they were both excellent. The 2 kids meals were really good too!
The staff were so lovely, and really looked after us. They had a good selection of wine and beers, and the prices were really good.
If we ever happen to be in the area again, we will absolutely go back!

Sunday lunch was lovely only niggle £4 for a small portion of Cauli cheese. Great atmosphere & lovely open fire. Highly recommended.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! We went for lunch here on Sunday and we called 20 mins before, our mistake, but the waiter was very accommodating and reserved a table for us! Now, when we arrived we were greeted and shown our seats and instantly made to feel at home. The waiter then came over to take our order and we of course had to go with the roast! But my mum doesn?t eat too much and so she (the waiter) recommended to go with the kids portion as it?s more than plentiful. The food arrived quickly and even with an extra serving of potatoes (which I?ll get onto) from the kitchen! The meal was served with lots of laughter and good vibes thanks to the cosy atmosphere of the Pub. The roast itself was amazing; I had the gammon, it was thinly cut which wasn?t usually how I have it but was definitely delicious. The sides of shaved parsnips and stuffing as well as veg medley partnered with the food perfectly. Now the potatoes, the star of the show, I don?t know how they made these but they were super crispy and crunchy on the outside and super super soft on the inside. The best potatoes I?ve had hands down and they definitely knew it as well! From the start to the end of the meal, everything was perfect!
Thanks again! Will definitely recommend going with family, friends or even by yourself! (No shame)

Great pub especially for the Sunday roasts we was there today ,I got the booking time wrong my fault got there an hour late the lovely landlady was brill still served us five even tho was a busy Sunday, thank you definitely be back great pub Sunday roast meat choice outstanding
