Unfriendly staff. When buying drinks at bar the card machine set so that you pay a tip! Unless you tap 'no tip'. Why a tip when going to the bar tp buy a drink. Uninviting and no atmosphere. Wouldnt go again.

When we went, we had booked for bottomless brunch at 2.30pm. When we arrived, there was a total of 3 staff rostered on. The poor staff were run off their feet. You know when kitchen staff are delivering food, there is an issue. The staff did everything they could to make our afternoon/ evening enjoyable and we had a great time. The reason for this review is to highlight the fault of management and their attempt to run a bar serving bottomless brunch in the centre of Chelmsford, in minimal staff. The food was OK, what you'd expect at slug I suppose. The atmosphere got better the later it got, this may or may not have had something to do with the amount of alcohol we drank ?.
There was one young lady who went out of her way to try and make up for the mistake of her management and we really appreciated her.
All in all an ok experience that could have been great with more staff. The 3 and the kitchen staff from that day, need a blimmen raise.

Went there on Saturday just been for my sisters birthday and pre-ordered a drinks packaged called flamingle and celebrate where it comes with 3 zero flocks given sharing drinks with sparklers, flamingo sunglasses, Hawaiian leis and a celebration card
It took 1 hour to actually pay for it as there was hardly anyone at the bar, and when I did it took another hour for it to be made
But only one of the sharers was made and after bringing it up with the workers we got the sunglasses and sweets and card but not the other sharers
At that point I?d given up and went home
Was not happy with this and will not be coming back

Came here for my girlfriend?s birthday and was very disappointed.
Food was stone cold and the chicken looked dodgy so it put us off it anyway, they make you pay upfront so nothing you can do about it, drinks were okay????
Left the food on the table, had our drinks and left.

Took ages for food to arrive and when it did it looks nothing like it did on the menu and had no flavour, we got our cutlery ten minutes into eating our food and where pretty much done by then which wasn?t helpful at all.
Absolutely dreadful and would not eat here again.

I have visited a lot and always loved the food. This was the first time I did the bottomless brunch after I recommended it for a friend's birthday (there were 6 of us) Unfortunately the drinks were very slow coming out to start with and in the first 45minutes we had only been given one drink and had to ask for the second one 3 times. We had 6 minutes left of our 2 hour slot and asked for deserts and were told we didn't have time so we only had one course. I would visit again but I wouldn't do bottomless brunch and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Was so looking forward to a little date night here with my husband. We had cocktails and food. The cocktails were perfect, cannot fault them at all. We bought main meals and a selection of starters to pick at. The chips were stone cold, had to chase down someone to get them changed who when I told put her whole hand over the chips to check to make me feel like I wasn?t telling the truth! Then came back with the same chips refried (you could clearly see that) and told me they were fresh! I?m not silly! They told us we couldn?t order through the app because they had problems although everyone else was, told us we had to come up to the bar! When at the bar the young boy was amazing! Lovely bartender but several other times we went up we had a young girl who did not want to be there! She was rude, snappy and just walked off when I paid, no thank you or anything! Will definitely go to the Colchester one in future!

went in for lunch today was only 2 other people when walking in , ordered food and a coke, asked for a slice of lemon , and the server picked up the lemon with their fingers and put it in my coke in front of my eyes! not hygienic at ALL! was waiting for change to get told haven?t got a till in yet will bring the change over , never did had to ask for my own change i don?t know if thought it was a tip. when food arrived my chips was cold second time this has happened , and my sisters steak sandwich was well done but yet stone cold! to where we had to ask for it to be put in the microwave. the whole time whilst waiting for food just kept seeing the bartender hunched over the back bar which appeared to look like was them just on their phone, i can understand why it was quiet as doesn?t look inviting having staffs back to you looking at their phone. safe to say would not be going back.

We had a voucher for afternoon tea so we chose Slug and lettuce Chelmsford. Big mistake! I have to say the young waiter was very good t his job , sadly the kitchen team were awful! Stale bread for a bacon sandwich which was cold and lardy , we couldn?t?t believe how stale , we left it. ! Two unidentifiable , fridge cold tasteless different savouries. 4 tiny slices if sickly cake! We could only have the same hot drink , tea or coffee , not a coffee for me and teas for hubby! We chose tea which was served in huge coffee cups and was luke warm. .
Very disappointing , absolutely awful !

I visit this slug and lettuce with my girlfriend?s and her family for my girlfriend?s birthday for meal and drinks . Firstly the service was brilliant I can?t fault the Barman . Look after us all night and was brilliant . The atmosphere was really good and after dinner had bingo on and music wasn?t too loud but was really good night . The food however was really poor standards. And It wasn?t one meal it was most of the food. There was 8 of us eating . Food was cold and not nice at all . I was left very disappointed considering this was my girlfriend meal and with her family . I wouldn?t recommend the food as it was at a very poor standard.

I booked a table for 4 and once we arrived one of the security guards was extremely rude to somebody in my group and told us he could not come in because he was wearing joggers. I understood he wasn?t allowed to wear that in the pub but the security?s attitude was awful and there was no need to be so rude. On the booking email when it has the list of rules after booking it also did not state you could not wear certain items of clothing in this establishment. Won?t come back.

All I can say is it's not an experience I would like to repeat.
I did understand that the venue is noted for being lively but when we were shown neh pointed to our table as we couldn't hear anything because the music was so loud. The table, I can only describe as missing a pole and dancer . We were right in the middle of the pub not in the small restaurant part .
I was asked at 6.40 if at 8.00 pm I could turn my hat around which seemed a bit bizarre something to do with the cameras.
We had to order at the bar and I got the only bar person that needed supervision but he was a polite guy.
The food was ok but I would not recommend eating there on a Friday night if you are hoping to chat or have the use of your hearing next hour or so .

Absolutely awful!!!
We went for a festive menu ,which we had booked a few weeks in advance. Booked for 7pm and was already like a night club dark and music so loud you couldn?t hear your own voice (2 of our party had hearing difficulties). Waited an hour and not a single person took a drink order. Starters came out and they were tiny and not as described in the preorder. The starters tasted as if they had been at the back of a freezer for months!! Apparently the servers were told by the manager to not serve our table as we could order on the app but we couldn?t as when you went on the app and said if you had a deposit and clicked ?yes? it said ?a server will be with you? and no one ever came. We spoke to the manager and asked to cancel the rest of the food and we went somewhere else. 100% would not recommend!!!
