OMG that was so good, hot, crunchy batter and a huge portion. The best bit of rock and chips I've had in years.
You can't beat a good bit of Essex rock and chips and this was better than good.

When I ordered a large cod and chips and a small cod and chips to take away I was shocked by the £25 cost. The rather arrogant older man with broken English behind the counter moaned about cost of moving etc. I told him it had better be good at that price and he effused about the quality and how good it would. Not surprisingly when I got back to my mums and plated the food the cod was soggy with grease. The batter was soft and wet and when pressed with a knife grease oozed out. It is by far the worst battered fish I have ever tried to eat. Most of what I paid £25 for went in the bin. I called them up to complain. The very nice helpful lady on the phone apologised and offered to send replacement meals over but we didn?t want more of the same and declined. She also said she would have the owner call me back but he has not called in the last 48 hours. Save yourself a disappointment and go to the Jolly Fryer or Sauda Village in the town instead.

We had great fish and chips with sausage for the family at this venue earlier today 20 July 2025. Service was fast and polite, the food was excellent. We will return, good value for money, price £25.50.

Do not order on line from this fish shop, they completely messed up my order and would not sort it out, just said no to putting it right very aggressively. Although the food that did turn up was good they are very aggressive and not prepared to rectify a mistake. Will certainly not be using this place again!!!!

Staying nearby for the week. Walked into town and had fish & chips for lunch. Cooked fresh for us and didn?t take long to wait. Enjoyed both the chips and the fish, which had a lovely crisp batter. Would definitely recommend a visit..

I heard about this chippy, but the jolly fryer,was more popular one, so I went that one, I had this Fish from jolly fryer,and it stunk to high heaven, so I decided the next time,I visited the area. I was going to Sauda Village,and the fish & chips, were 10/10, when I visit burham on crouch again, I will go to Sauda Village, see you again soon

The worst fish and chips we have ever had, went to burham to have fish and chips at the jolly fryer unfortunately it was shut. So gave sauda village other try. Never again the chips were black the sausages were tasteless and dry. Fish was dripping in oil. The table outside was filthy had to clean it ourselves. I don?t know how they got a 5 rating from EHO
