Kids were hungry so we opted for a meal at Victoria Cafe, good sign that it seemed pretty busy / popular. Although before we went in, we noticed a cash only sign so initially had to divert off to get some cash out (post office next door was handy for this). One we had some money we went in and given a table straight away. Drinks ordered and then eventually food as well. It was fairly loud in the cafe, but not to the extent you couldn't hear those directly around you.
We had smoothies and milkshakes for the drinks (we did have to chase one of them up.. but got it as soon as we did.) All of which were very nice. When food came, the portion sizes were very good and there were no complaints with how much food we all had! Some of it even went in a take away box as a snack for later...!
I thought the prices were reasonable for what we got. Would not hesitate coming here again for food if in Brightlingsea!

My Mum asked for a jacket potato with cheese and side salad, came out as jacket potato with beans and cheese. Waitress misheard her, and when my mum corrected her when the food arrived she said she would check the ticket. She came back and told my mum she said beans and cheese, taking no accountability for the fact she was the one who got it wrong. My mum doesn?t like beans so had to swap her meal with my dad, there should have been an apology from the waitress for getting the order wrong and an offer to make a new one. Won?t be coming back, first impressions on this place. Portions are great and food is nice enough, but abysmal service.

Sadly let us down today- ordered drinks and lunch, my partners coffee never arrived so chased a waitress for it- but after 40 mins still no lunch, checked with waitress that took our order and discovered order had not actually been delivered to kitchen. Weren?t prepared to wait any longer so paid for the drinks (no good will shown here) and left in disgust.

Wanted to order a cappuccino with cakes. Unfortunately they did not have cakes and scones, according to the friendly lady who served us.
After she left us, to get our coffees we saw cheesecake on the menu. We went into the shop and ordered cheesecake to have with our coffees.
(Don?t know what the mixup was)
To our great surprise we were served two delicious pieces of cheesecake with vanilla ice-cream and sauce.
It was great.
Friendly staff, in for a chat.
We recommend Victoria cafe to anybody visiting Brightlingsea.

Lovely breakfast, plenty to choose from. Good value for money, 4 items only £6.50. I had the healthy 1 which was well worth the £9.50. Huge portions served, highly recommend.

Great place to get breakfast, lots of options and excellent value. It gets very busy which is a testament to how popular it is. Large portions of fresh cooked food. It's cash only but there's a cash machine in the spar shop next door so not terribly inconvenient if you don't have enough cash on you.
The staff are always friendly and attentive.
You can ask for takeaway too and they'll box your food for you and they do fresh coffee to go which is great if they're busy and you'd rather enjoy your lunch outside or down the beach just a short walk away.
I highly recommend. It's exactly as you'd expect from a classic greasy spoon cafe but with lots of options and huge portions and excellent coffee & smoothies too!

Just happened upon this cafe whilst out on a reccy of the local area. Got to say the food was very nice. Had a full English and was not able to clear my plate.
Bacon cooked just the way I like it, more mushrooms than you could throw a stick at and eggs where dippable. Would definately recommend and will return next year.

This place is a hidden gem. Giant portions of comfort food are what they do best. Everything tastes like it's made with that home-cooked goodness. Perfect for a satisfying, no-fuss meal. Plus, it won't break the bank.
