Came to this Branch on Monday to Cancel 2 Direct debits. What occurred astounded me. My wife as at home and so as one was from my account and the other from hers she SIGNED a joint letter to cancel £10.86 D/D and £12.86 D/D from me. I only wanted to hand the letter in and as both signatures were shown I assume in a few days it would be done. At the front desk I was informed I CAN DO THAT. Ok, mine was easy, upon getting my wife?s card out I was told No,No, I can?t do that. I explained that I have my wife?s pin and the letter is SIGNED so what?s the problem. She has to be here was the reply. I then said that she is at home so as you have all contact details please ring her to verify everything. Oh I can?t do that ( at this point I really wished I had just left the letter and gone). Unbelievably I was then given a phone number to arrange the cancellation from home. Good advice when all businesses are short of staff and very likely a long wait ( 25 minutes) to be exact. What has happened to common sense, trying to cancel £10.86p D/D you would think I was trying to clear the account out.
