We've had several drives out to discover what's going on at Blake House Craft Centre and had to abandon our adventure due to closed roads, floods and off putting road works. Today was a success.
We went straight to the Grain Store cafe where we were met by friendly staff and were seated within moments.
A bright clean welcoming space with plenty of room and very clear menus for drinks, breakfasts, sandwiches, puds and cakes.
Good coffee served in hot cups was very welcome. The chicken wrap with green leaves and coleslaw promised much and was the last portion available so I had to choose an alternative. I had a ham and cheddar toastie with slaw.
The wrap was too hard and dry to chew so was left. Coleslaw, with red cabbage and carrot with a bit of dark green leaf, seeds and some dressing was bland, without seasoning so tasteless and the seeds gave an unpleasant texture.
The Toastie on sourdough was so hard and crispy I feared for my teeth! Ham was bland the cheese ok. I had an aftertaste with the unpleasantness of margarine or some such.
Staff were lovely.
The Cafe has only just been taken over so there are a few tweaks to sort out on the light bites front!
Oh and I would say take your own sugar and salt supplies if they are your thing. There is definitely dearth of these two additions and my other half decided he was being rationed on the sugar front and the salt a free sample!
The bill was £28 for our brunch for two including coffee.
We will visit again as we did not venture into any of the little shops. I felt cold in the barnyard with the howling wind although I really took a liking to the Norton in the window, my sort of vehicle and would be brilliant for the summer.
I think the whole centre probably comes alive at weekends and in the warmer weather when eating outside and the shops are all open and looking vibrant...
