If I could give Santander Bank UK zero stars, I absolutely would. My experience has been nothing short of frustrating, and it feels as though the team is lacking the knowledge and expertise required to process an international wire transfer to the US.
It all began on Monday, December 9, when a wire transfer of funds to the US was initiated. The initial representative seemed unsure about the legitimacy of the transaction and expressed doubts, yet she processed the request and provided a receipt stating the funds would arrive by Friday. While this timeline was longer than expected, we accepted it.
However, when the following Monday arrived and no funds had been received, returned to the bank only to learn that the request had never been sent because the representative had deemed it a potential fraud. This lack of communication and accountability is unacceptable.
Fortunately, the bank manager was fantastic and acknowledged the error made by the representative. He processed the request again, only to later call back and inform us that the funds had been returned with no explanation. After contacting the international department, we were told that the error message indicated the receiving account does not accept wire transfers?despite the fact that this account regularly receives wires from the UK.
We requested to review the wire information to ensure accuracy for a potential resending, but the international representative refused to send it again, citing discomfort with doing so. This has left us in a state of uncertainty regarding the protocols for wiring funds. The money remains in the account, seemingly stuck due to the bank?s internal mismanagement and lack of proper training.
At this point, we are still without a resolution and plan to return to the bank tomorrow in hopes of finally retrieving our funds. This has not only been an inconvenience but also a significant source of frustration. It?s disheartening to realize that nearly two weeks have passed, and we are no closer to completing a simple international wire transfer.
Who is accountable at Santander Bank UK? Who oversees the operations and ensures that staff are properly trained in international transactions? It appears that the team does not fully understand how to handle wire transfers to international accounts. I hope this is the reason and not one of racially profiling the customer.
I would strongly advise anyone considering using Santander UK for international wire transfers to think twice.

Wanted to open a current account and was told an appointment would be a couple of weeks in advance. This despite having been told by Santander help line that no appointment would be necessary, just pop in and I would be helped. Not imptessed at all.

Fantastic bank. Staff are all so lovely and welcoming, every appointment is very insightful and none of this bank jargon, they explain everything fully and simply to ensure you understand. Can't fault them!
