We had a six course taster menu on Fri 22nd March and it was fantastic. Amazing work by the chef, kitchen and all the serving staff. Cannot recommend the food here enough. A thoroughly brilliant evening.(We are local and did not stay at the hotel but family have and it's also highly recommended)

A lovely 5 bedroom hotel approx.4 miles from Billericay.The owners clearly take great pride in their business,with attractive decor,quality furnishings,excellent food & service.To the rear of the hotel is fabulous setup for weddings or similar functions.We will be revisiting them again in the next few weeks. This place is a little gem

We cannot thank Christina, Debra and Ben and all the staff at Downham Hall for a truly wonderful wedding day! They couldn't have done any more! We had so many lovely compliments from our guests about how lovely the staff were and what a beautiful venue Downham hall is! It truly is a gorgeous venue and the staff are excellent and wonderful! If you want an intimate and exclusive venue for any event you cannot go wrong!

We booked for 4 nights from January 2nd for a wedding at another venue , my Birthday and family reunion. We were told after booking and paying a non refundable deposit that the kitchen staff were off for a week, so no restaurant or afternoon teas and our breakfast was going to be cooked by the owner. Our room was lovely and Hotel in very quiet position. The Hotel was virtually empty. Christina the owner cooked our breakfast each morning in her own kitchen, it was a bit disjointed but food was lovely first day, but then became less pleasing with stale cereal and solid porridge. The 3rd breakfast we were unable to eat but still had to pay for it. Unfortunately for me on our 3rd day ( my birthday)whilst in London that morning, I had a funny turn with chest pains , we returned back to the Hotel, we told Christina that we would have to travel home a day early and seek medical help. We were upset as my birthday was ruined and we were due to see family the following day. Christina showed no feeling and told us that we would still have to pay for last night even though we gave her plenty of notice and the Hotel was empty. It was January 4th for Christ sake not JULY or AUGUST and we had already stayed 3 nights in a empty Hotel with no staff or advertised facilities! We felt we had no choice but to stay as we were forced to pay for the last night and go the local hospital instead, we spent 14 hours there having loads of tests and returned back at the Hotel late at night for a 4 hour sleep then returned home early the following morning. Two days later I spent 5 nights in our local Hospital and had a heart operation. We cannot comment on the Hotel running normally when there are staff but our experience was not good, we felt it was all about profit and uncaring to my situation. It was a shame as we are due back in the area twice this year and would have stayed again if the owner would have been more understanding, but after our experience, we will not return.Rooms: All rooms are decorated lovely, just a couple of minor things, radiator on full and valve broken , so room very hot. no latch on window, so not secureFood & drinks: Cannot comment on meals when staff are there, I would expect they are lovely but our advise make sure staff are there before you book as our experience was poor.

We recently held our parents Ruby wedding anniversary celebration dinner at Downham Hall. Ben and his team went above and beyond to make everything perfect. The food and service was fabulous but what really sets this place apart is the staff. Nothing was too much trouble.We cannot wait to come back!Thank you!
