We went and had a meal here after going swimming at camber sands and the range of gluten-free things were really good
The food was absolutely delicious, staff were lovely and we had a comfy spot opposite the bar. It really made our evening very special.

Lovely location, but the food and service really let this place down. I?ve been here a few times over the years and not one time was particularly positive.
Food - really crap vegetarian menu options, the falafels are drier than the dessert sand. Our large party for dinner were all a bit ?meh? about the food, felt like low quality food ordered from Brakes wholesaler. In their defense, the food came out quickly, although my meal had been forgotten and I had to wait an extra 10 mins for mine to be made (no apology from the waitress for this).
Service - some bar staff are really lovely, but there is one who is mega grumpy. We had eaten our mains, plates taken away, about 2 hours into our booking and then we were approached by someone, and asked if it was all okay and if we needed anything else. I had similar experiences before on other visits with grumpy bar staff (not sure if it?s the same one!).
Sadly, after a couple of negative experiences, I wouldn?t return which is a massive shame. Perhaps each time I?ve caught them at an odd time, as the other reviews are mostly great.

The staff and location our lovely but the food is not up to standard. I had to send food back 3 times and felt very sick afterwards. Very disappointing as the atmosphere is so lovely.

We booked to come here for my friends 30th and the staff were absolutely fantastic! So helpful, friendly and made the whole suprise element of the dinner seamless.
I got there before the pub had actually opened and I was a bit nervous as I had the cake in my car and the chef spotted me and kindly took the cake and candles right away.
The food was delicious and even with it being a heaving day came out in a timely manner and cooked to perfection - great variety on the menu as well!
The servers were so kind and picked up immediately on my eye contact to bring out the cake and subtly checked whose birthday it was.
Can't praise the place enough. ??

We were staying close by the Castle Inn for a few days so dropped in for a quick pint one evening.
We enjoyed sitting in the beer garden admiring the scenery.
We didn't order any food, although there were many diners sitting inside and out looking like they were having a good time.
Worth a visit.

Nice place to sit in the garden with a view across to the railway and river. Menu has changed from the last time we came and seemed to have a better range than before.

Nice village pub right opposite Bodiam Castle with, in my opinion, better food than at the NT cafe.
Good choice of beers too.
