We stayed at the Inn for 2 nights as we were going to the Opera at Glyndebourne. The Inn is full of history and very interesting. The landlady was friendly.
However, the pub closes too early around 9-9.30pm and we struggle to get one more drink in before bed. We felt that we were a nuisance to the bar staff that we wanted a couple more drinks before going to be (and it was barely 9.30pm).
On the second night after the Opera, we got back before 9.30pm and the staff reluctantly served as a couple of beers as she had just cleared the till but she would serve us if we paid by card.
After that we went to the George Inn up the road.
I would say, not being able to have a drink at normal pub hours has put a damper on our visit and it made it worse that we were staying at the Inn for 2 nights.
We will hopefully do the Glyndebourne thing again in a couple of years but we won?t be staying there again.
But one thing I must say the ale and food were good. If you want to try the Amarda and the Long Man larger make sure you get in early.

We went to Alfriston which is a lovely village and stumbled upon Ye olde smugglers inne. We didn't want a massive lunch so had a starter. The young lady who served us was so attentive and welcoming. We both ordered the whitebait. We went to sit in the lovely quiet garden. It arrived quickly with a side of chips. Both were piping hot and very tasty. Overall, great food and excellent service.

A quaint, cosy and historically intriguing inn with plenty of character, comfortable and clean rooms, and excellent hospitality. James, the barman, was especially attentive and welcoming. Highly recommended

Great beer, great pub. Nice garden out back. Packet of crisps here so can?t comment on food, but smell from the kitchen was good so can only assume good food too.

They kicked us out 30 mins early because the staff wanted to go home early. First they tried to kick us out early. We asked what time they closed. One staff member said 23:00 and another said 23:30. When it got to 23:00, they first staff member kicked us out, because she wanted to get home early. We are actually customers paying them money!

Popped in without a booking made to feel very welcome. Food was excellent and the lady at the bar was very pleasant and friendly. Will definitely recommend. Thank you for a lovely evening.

As a group of 15 walkers we arrived at the pub for our pre-ordered meal and were served almost immediately - much better than the extended wait we've experience elsewhere. in advnce I was a bit disappointed the veggie option was beetroot goulash - i don't really like beetroot - but when it arrived it was delicious!!! and a really health pub meal :-) (though a bit more peppery next time please - though of course you can add your own).. And they were happy for other colleagues to swap to a nut roast which hadn't been mentioned online, and which was much better than at many other pubs.
Reasonable prices too. (a couple of the other dishes didn't look too exciting, eg the scampi, and teh onion bhaji burer)
only complaint - the online menu was out of date.
should give if 5 stars really cos they ticked all the boxes.

It was a lovely day, I went there with my friend and the lady who served in the counter was really friendly and sweet. I told her I was going to celebrate my friend?s birthday secretly. She was being very helpful. She made my day literally. I wish I could be back again. Thank you
