Fabulous place, so much choice on every level, clothes, (Klass, Cotton Traders, Edinburgh Wool, to name a few) footwear (Pavers!), garden furniture and plants galore, you have to visit to appreciate it, as it's not just a garden centre.However.....**THE CAFE IS A DISAPPOINTMENT**I have highlighted this, because despite a good deal of other people's review experiences I've read on here, regarding poor quality, over-priced food, long queues and running out of what is advertised, (with which I wholly concur) it would seem the management are not taking these low star ratings for the café seriously. My review would have been five stars, but although there is a nice, spacious café, with more than ample seating, each time I have been, by midday (sometimes earlier) they have already run out of what is advertised on the display board before you get to the till. On many an occasion I have spent time waiting in the queue, contemplating what I would like to order and invariably, even when I've had a back up choice, neither have been available. This could be something as simple as scones or soup.Hilliers is always, always busy, so why they can't the management foresee they need not only more stock, but also more staff. The staff are friendly and do their best, but are run off their feet. Customers, after waiting in a queue, find that there is limited choice on the menu, it just doesn't bode well and let's the experience of this lovely place down. It's a shame, because I am now resigned that each time I go there, visiting the café is a disappointing waste of time, so I won't be bothering again, in fact, just the thought of it makes me irritated and that's not usual for me. Anyone who may take a look at my reviews will see I only write constructive ones.

Ironic that a place that sells so many wonderful plants doesn?t sell plant food. There was nothing clearly labelled vegan on the menu at the cafe and with the stench of dead animals in the butcher it was pretty off putting experience when it came to the cafe part.Nice pots though.

Breakfast is not worth £9.99 more like £4.99 at a push. Need to put 2 tea bags in a pot for tea

We enjoyed coffee and scones but were disappointed on returning home to discover the two buckets of tulips bought to be given as Christmas presents had Dec. 23 on the bottom of the container as last date for planting. Full recommended purchase price paid. Buyers beware!

Quite possibly the best breakfast bap I have ever tasted. Quality meat, quality roll, perfectly cooked egg and all for £6.99. Excellent.

Went in to hilliers Eastbourne last Saturday to collect some ham hock terrine that I had called up to order the day before.Turned up on the Saturday with my little boy to collect and I was informed by the butcher that they don?t sell ham hock terrine, but they do sell ham hocks.I spoke with a hilliers worker and could hear the conversation that he had with the butcher and I did not hear him once state that he does not stock ham hock terrine only that he had one portion in stock and would have more in by Saturday am!The butcher (older butcher or the two) was so rude and argumentative, clearly has had zero customer service training. He really wanted to argue his case and would not let me get a word on edge ways so I ended up leaving empty handed with my 16 month old little boy.Shocking communication and customer service, hilliers should think about out sourcing their butchery to someone else.

The garden centre is fine , pretty much a generic garden centre but hygiene at the cafe is poor . I don?t think anyone has done even a basic hygiene course . To start with the trays are stained and some need replacing . At the end of the aisle you collect your own cutlery which are dirty and very stained , no excuse here . They place glasses face down on a j cloth , even if it?s changed regularly it?s a bacteria trap . If you want to put glasses face down you should have them on a metal tray that is washed regularly in hot water . Please organise a basic course for your staffI do come with friends for a cup of tea but bring my own spoon ?

They have received many reviews saying the food is disappointing and yet have done nothing to try to improve. The cakes are tasteless mass produced items where you can taste sugar and little else. The food is uninspired with a small dollop of shop bought coleslaw on the side! You could make better at home. Also stopping breakfast at 11:30 is a bit odd, why wouldn?t you continue till 12 at least? Brunch is clearly not a thing at Hilliers. The selection of foods in the food hall entrance is good and plants are lovely. We?ve visited regularly but never eaten till now, and we won?t be doing so again. A big positive is the dedicated changing room. 1 star for the baby changing room and 1 star for the plants.

Good quality plants presented in a soulless, sterile environment. If you want to visit a garden centre with character and a good cafe, this is NOT the place. Inside feels more like Matalan, with a very small, unimaginative selection of houseplants. Not very dog friendly either, which seems counterproductive for a garden centre.

I often visit Hilliers at Stones Cross with my dog and an Agoraphobic friend. She loves buying from the food hall and butchers counter and we have lunch outside. This was the only place she would go out to.Now they have banned dogs from this food hall - however, they have NOT updated their website..I will not be going there again.
