Friendly, welcoming pub with a good drop of Harvey's Best. Good food, reasonably priced, let down by the packet cod.
Dog ? friendly, the pub dog was welcoming to Bob, our Llasa, and seemed to have a wide circle of chums
First evening of holiday, we will return

We had a Family reunion at the Rose and Crown on August Bank holiday Sunday.
My relatives used to live nearby 30+ years ago
We pre-booked as a party of 12 and were allocated to the separate Dining room.
On arrival we were greeted by a bubbly young lady who was very attentive and took our orders and also a group photo.
The food was piping hot, freshly cooked and the portions were huge. The Roast dinner was excellent and was home cooked.
We just had room for dessert.
We were very impressed with everything about this lovely rural pub.
It's so nice to have an authentic place with good food and good staff with proper fresh home cooked food rather than a chains brought in frozen microwaved fare.
The bar was well stocked and clean.
Unfortunately I was driving and couldn't sample the beers but I am sure they are in prime condition as they were all those years when I used to stagger out.
My relatives were within walking distance.
Give this pub a go and realise what an English pub should be.
Parking: Large off road car park plenty of space

Nice old-fashioned 'local' atmosphere with friendly and efficient service. The menu was straight-forward pub fare but well cooked and presented and there was plenty of it. Good range of drinks and nice beer garden. Great value for money and a pleasant place.

Best country pub in east Sussex. Will gladly punch anyone who disagrees.

Alice is one of a kind. Kind and welcoming. Ham egg and chips is a must if you drank one to many Harveys. The locals are friendly. Put one in the wood for Simon and everyone will be happy ?

The pub was close to our holiday home and we went there two or three times. Solid English pub food, good beers, good prices and very nice people.

Classic proper old style pub, food is grilled or fried things with chips/peas/salad. Hot, fast, well priced, delicious, filling.
Kids meals readily available. Food came on nice hot plates, though kids' food did not - food call!
Kid-friendliness: £5 kids meals ?

This review is written for a group of us visiting mid-week lunchtime. We had never been here before, and the entire group was incredibly impressed with the food and service!Alice was very accommodating, and both she and the young gentleman serving were exemplary with their friendliness and customer service.I have been taking this group (sarahclub.uk) to venues across East Sussex and parts of Kent for years, and we all agreed that the Rose and Crown ranks with the very best places we've eaten at.We all had a pre-booked beef roast (a special offered only for weekday group sittings, not normally available during regular weekday lunch). None of us encountered any gristle, chewy bits, or stringy bits in the beef - it was soft, tender, flavourful, and generously served. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, neither hard nor overly soft. The cauliflower cheese was amazing, and there were lovely home-cooked yorkshire puddings with ample hot gravy. We had a choice of four desserts, and the group managed to try all four. Each dessert was fantastic! The pub has a lot of character, very interesting decor, and is dog-friendly. We were even seated next to a lovely wood fire! What a lovely afternoon lunch we all had - thank you to Alice and your staff.
