Can't give a fair review. Pub in transition. Very welcoming village pub.

Pretty disappointed today. In a nutshell, ordered beef roast dinner and chicken roast dinner and got pork instead of beef. Waitress offered to take it away but we were hungry and had already waited an hour (we knew we had a wait, so no problem with that) so said we would accept it and waitress said she?d charge us half. Lovely chicken, potatoes, carrots and parsnips but the 4 peas, 3 green beans and cabbage were raw. Husband didn?t even get parsnips. Out of the 4 puddings only one was available. Was then charged full price which we questioned because we were charged for gammon and pork. Overheard another customer saying she could have cooked a better roast.

Another gorgeous Newick pub. Lovely staff and good choice of beers. Food menu ok but a little uninspiring. Very dog friendly!

The food was good but not special and the ridiculous waits really marred our experience. They were busy but not very busy and we waited an hour for our main course and then half an hour for pudding. Such a shame as it seemed so promising when we arrived but we won?t rush back.

Popped in to meet with a friend, I used to pop in more often when I was younger many moons ago. It was a great atmosphere then, & it's a great atmosphere now.
It was a chilly evening out, but inside the open fire was blasting out heat. Got to love a proper village pub, the welcoming ambience, the exposed wood, low ceilings, the friendly locals, and a few dogs settled in the sweet spot in front of the fire. Impeccable service, plenty of friendly smiles, and sociable chat.
The food looked spot on, too. So I shall be back there for a steak night.

Just appalling, food and service. Would like to think of something positive, but struggling, curtains were nice.

Good food but too much on a plate. Waste of food.

We visited to assess the suitability for a future outing. Cannot comment on the food service or atmosphere

When you come across a place this good it totally deserves 5*. We had been camping at EarthCamp campsite nearby and decided to find a local pub for lunch.
The Royal Oak had been recommended by our hosts at Earthcamp so we turned up on a Sunday at 12pm and were pleased to find tables free. Straight away the pub felt warm and homely, with old beams and character, a traditional looking old school pub!
The roast dinner was superb, great portions, great taste, crispy crackling and perfect roast potatoes. My friends meals were also very tasty and they served other food as well as Sunday roasts.
The staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming.
Will definitely be going back if I'm in Newick. ??
