Worst hotel I have ever been in my life ?

Completely awful. Run if you're given room 44. Though the building is dated and you'd expect some antique quirks, lighting in the corridors was poor and there was no headroom. Getting up to our room required scaling an ancient staircase which was falling to pieces and which was also not lit. Really quite dangerous. The shared shower room/toilet was grimy without proper soap and there was no privacy glass. The room was incredibly dusty, probably due to the ceiling which was falling apart and peeling away. Plus we hit our heads on the beams multiple times (no mind your head signs). The bed was hard and fairly mucky, we didn't bother peeling back the duvet to see what was underneath and instead spent the night shivering under our T shirts. To top it off the heating didn't work.No water/tea/coffee facilities in the room, though we had been left a stained towel in case we were mad enough to take a shower. This isn't just bad it's downright dangerous.

After reading the reviews I was slightly concerned, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. My room was rm 35 - comfy 4 poster bed. The bathroom was a retro orange, the water was hot. Tea/coffee/milk/biscuits, clean towels + toiletries provided. Rm 36 smelled of smoke + TV wasn't working so I had the better room but co-traveller said other than that it was fine, bed comfy and it was quiet. Some lights in the corridor didn't work - just used torch on phone. Fire escape was not locked but would prefer that than getting locked in a burning building. Other accommodation near was more than double the price per night (we paid £150 for 2 x ensuite doubles) - so content to enjoy, not perfection but the chance to stay in a querky listed building. Just check in early as online can double book rooms!

Stayed here as an expat American in 1983. Back then it was the only thing going. Sorry to hear it may have fallen into disrepair.

My wife and I stayed as above in your room with the four poster bed. I would just like to say that in line withe price of £95.00 the room in no way matched that price. It was very tired, in need of decoration, bathroom was dingy with no proper shower. Floors were dirty, not hoovered as bits all over it. Bed spread was dirty and hadn?t been washed for a while. In all not a very good standard to offer customers. Whilst we were aware that no food was being served but would breakfast had been included or was this extra. If the latter then I would expect a refund. Finally, the fire escape at the back could not be locked which is not a great safety aspect for your guests feeling safe for public to walk in.

On arrival we waited 25 mins in the dark to be booked in. Room was adequate but the 1970's bathroom needs updating. 1 towel between the 2 of us, no coffee or milk. At booking was not advised there was no chef so no meals.

Dreadful. Dark corridors with steps with no lights working, very dangerous, Shower head in my room held in place with gaffer tape. Cups for tea and coffee stuck to the saucer and cups not clean inside. No breakfast provided. Will I be coming back? I'll let you guess.

Where do I start I wish I had read the reviews? horrid!!! I real shame lovely area the owner could make this hotel old pub very welcoming.. especially when he has a new red clean Ferrari sitting outside. Dirty/dusty/smelly room attached photos say it all. My husband had a shower and his fit were dirty after walking on the carpet the picture of the soap dish was when we first looked no one had, had a dower yet, no normal tea bags kettle had old water in it. I know we could have complained but there was so many things to complain about and we were of to a family party and we didn?t won?t to get wound up.. Also a brochure in the room said complimentary breakfast no such thing? My daughter/ son in law and grandson room was just as dirty! So embarrassed as I booked it for all of us. This hotel should be looked in to.

Wasn?t Impressed with my room, very outdated place and dark corridors I banged my head trying to get through some doors while going to my room, room wasn?t very clean and there was dust in most places. Also found tobacco on my table and cigarette tip wrapping in the bin so someone was clearly rolling a cigarette for themselves beforehand. I could not check out first thing in the morning I didn?t know where to leave the key, the reception door was locked and no signs for checkout. My television did not work, tried to use channels but it didn?t work. The phone didn?t work in the room either.

Arrived to check in and the place is deserted, no one around and no one answered the phone. Tried to get a response for over an hour. I?ve never experienced this before. I?ll avoid this place in the future and I?d advise you to do the same.

Faulty towers eat your heart out this place is hilarious we had to navigate our way through the hotel in complete darkness until we opened the door of our room Then the fun began after waiting an age for the hot water to come through in the bathroom First night loads of noise then the second there was a police raid who came bursting into our. Good job we were only watching TV Was going to wash my hair but when I saw the hair dryer on the wall I changed my mind So won't be booking to stay there again although the town was lovely

I arrived for a 90th Birthday Party locally from Dorset. Having driven fir nearly three hours to be confronted by a dingy, tired, pitch black reception with a tatty bar, service crap beer. The owner, an Italian who used to drive a flashy, red sports car said I can't find your booking. It was scribbled in pencil in an old book. I was also told they only accepted cash Both for the booking & in the bar. Unbelievable! I asked if the £65.00 included breakfast, or if I could order one and was informed there was no chef. I was also asked when I would be checking out. I said 9.00am. Owner said, fine just leave jey in door and you can leave via the fire exit, which was accessed by a permanently unlocked door. The fire escape was very steep and dangerous. Room was dirty, with no coffee or tea available. Avoid thus Hotel or pub like the plague. Disgraceful! For an old proprietor with years owning this place to let it go so badly downhill.
