This restaurant and cafe is a real find; tucked away amongst Scandinavian-style business units and residential pods. It has a wonderful mezzanine with views over the birch woods and East Sussex countryside; the inside is cosy with sparse but welcoming decor, natural colour palette and materials which reflect the outside environment. The restaurant is quite small, providing about thirty covers. We ate at lunch, but had the option of tea, coffee and pastries. The menu is varied enough to suit different palettes and offers a small selection of starters, main plates and desserts at individual prices or a three-course option at reduced cost. The food is wholesome, comforting and delicious; beautifully cooked and presented. The head chef (Will) clearly has a passion for high quality ingredients and the sommelier (Matt) provides an excellent selection of wine, including English vineyards. We were served by Sophie who was proficient and polite throughout our meal.Birchwood is focused around sustainability and wellbeing, without seeming pretentious; it serves the local community and provides a space in which you feel at ease, whether dining, stopping for a coffee or attending a workshop nearby.Whichever you prefer I recommend a visit if you?re passing through the area (EV chargers outside) or a booking to dine.

What a superb venue! I ran a workshop at Wealden Osteopaths & Spine Centre at No.7 and we had take away coffees & pastries during the day and lunch at the restaurant. The service was great, such a lovely team! The atmosphere was so lovely and the food was absolutely delicious. What a well thought out menu too - can't wait to come back!

We visited for Sunday lunch in December. The food was very good - particularly the special main course of roast turkey which was exceptional. The service was efficient and very friendly and the atmosphere was good. The only thing to note is that the menu is quite short (normally I understand only one meat, one fish and one vegetarian main course for example) which may be limiting if you have some guests who are not onmnivorous. The restaurant is small so booking in advance is essential.

Went to supper club on Friday with friends. Absolutely excellent locally sourced food. Service excellent. If I had a criticism it would be that you have to sit on benches rather than chairs which is uncomfortable & that our plates were cold. Food & service fantastic though.
