We have often been to The Nutmeg Tree, the food is good, the staff are very responsive and it is nice to sit in the garden. Unfortunately our visit this week, (we had booked a table for lunch in the garden) was spoilt by the constant yapping of a dog which the owner completely ignored. We had to move inside because we couldn?t have a conversation outside. Unfortunately there were children constantly running through the cafe to the road while their parents ignored them pushing past behind our chairs. It would have been nice if the management at this point had spoken to the parents as the behaviour was impacting on several other people but also we were concerned about the safety of the children on the busy road outside. Unfortunately we will have to find another meeting place.

Would have been lovely to experience this tea room, we got there an hour before closing (15.30) looking forward to a nice cake and coffee, but it was closed. It says clearly online it's open until 16.30 on a Saturday (and also on the door) Luckily we hadn't come too far, but this would be very frustrating for people who come from afar. Very disappointed customers.

Enjoyed the Welsh Rarebit and scones and cream. Rarebit taste was good and a generous serving. Loved the scones too. Jam could be better though.

We had the loveliest experience at The Nutmeg Tree ? a true hidden gem full of charm, warmth, and delicious food. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and cosy, with friendly staff who made us feel right at home.
The menu offers a beautiful selection of homemade dishes and irresistible cakes. Everything we tried was fresh, full of flavour, and clearly made with care.
It?s the kind of place that feels like a comforting hug ? whether you?re popping in for a quick coffee or settling in for a longer lunch with friends. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing spot with real character and heart. We?ll definitely be back!

Absolutely loved this tea house! The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing, the tea selection is amazing, and the staff are super friendly. Plus, the garden is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy your tea. Perfect spot to unwind and recharge.

Lovely place to stop if you are cycling to Brighton. Pain au chocolate were ace. Lovely outside area at the back with views of Ditchling Beacon

A great cafe/restaurant for the majority that don?t have dietary requirements namely dairy free or
vegan.
No dairy free/vegan option on offer when having afternoon tea despite the menu saying otherwise. Very disappointing and easily resolved by making a batch of scones with dairy free fat and oat milk and likewise with cakes, flapjacks etc.

This place is just wonderful.
I adore the Dame Vera Lyn room ? The decor throughout is lovely.
We had eggs benedict which was very yummy. I'm a major coffee snob (being a barista and being used to perfectly brewed speciality coffee at my own tearoom) I rarely enjoy coffee elsewhere. But their coffee was great!?
Staff were lovely and the owner took time to chat with us too.
We will definitely be back.

We had a lovely simple breakfast at this quaint little establishment on our last morning in the area.
We were slightly jaded after a late night and this little gem of a place was just what we needed. The decor was cosy and quirky, the staff friendly and smiling and the service was great.
We hadn't booked so we felt pretty lucky to even get a table as we had read about how popular this cafe was. We chose from the breakfast items as it was about 11.30 am and the menu gave us lots of delicious sounding options. We went for sausage/bacon baguettes and were not dissapointed. Everything was fresh and tasty and nicely presented.
I must also mention how impressed we were with the grace, patience and professionalism of the staff who were being greatly tested by a large family group of difficult and rude customers on the table next to us. These people noisily complained about pretty much everything, critisised the menus and repeatedly tried to order items that were simply unavailable at that time. The young waiting staff coped very well and we were impressed that they kept their cool in the circumstances.
