Have used Brighton Halfords auto centre for a number of years, both cars in our household go there. We're both part of the motoring club, have always felt like they weren't taking me for a ride, but this time they added work to the service that didn't need doing.
Advisories to get filters and break fluid changed (an every 2 year or 24000 mile job) which was done 12 months previously on a major service, with less than half the required miles done for the change to be necessary.
The tyres went into the garage ok (paperwork tells you the tyre readings on arrival) , but was advised tyres needed changing with the reading being nearly 2mm in tread different. No explanation for this.
Felt scammed. Thankfully I didn't have time for the work to be done as only noticed all this after collecting and getting the paperwork, otherwise would have cost me upwards of £600 for work not needed.
No explanation from jack. Just that he trusts his mechanics. He wouldn't remove the advisories even though they shouldn't have been advised.

Booked my car in three weeks ago for an MOT. Gave them the registration number and they confirmed what type of car it was. However, on arriving at the centre this morning they tell me my car is too wide to fit on their jack. So having driven all the way here they can?t MOT my car and I?ll have to find somewhere else before the MOT expires. Nobody bothered to check what type of car had been booked in and whether they could manage to do the test. It?s not that exotic a car - it?s a Tesla. Absolutely pathetic.

Very friendly bunch, my car was low on oil and just popped in to grab a top up. Harry was very professional and quickly sorted my issue. Helped me out a ton as I was about to go on an two hour drive so desperately needed the oil before heading off

Bunch of pirates. Came in for a service with new tyres and left with a puncture in one of them, which they said needed fixing. Also, they didn't even update my car's service book. Waste of time and money. Autovets in Woodingdean is far more reliable and friendlier.

Fix your building alarm, every summer it's the same story, thing gets triggered all the time and even in the middle of the night.

I had mot booked. Car failed on bulbs which was out of stock. Told me where to get them. Offered to fit free of charge and re-test as soon as I returned. Went above and beyond. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable.

Really disappointed with my experience at Halfords this time. Had the car in for an MOT, it failed on a lightbulb adjustment, which cost me nothing and 2 minutes in a garage to fix. It happens, but it felt like something they could?ve adjusted there and then, not Halfords policy I?d imagine. Garage I took it to were suprised Halfords didn?t just click the light back in place and carry on with the MOT.
Booked in for a retest at 8:30am yesterday, email confirmation, many text reminders.
Arrive at 8:30 to be told the retest is at 8am, and I?ve missed the slot. I showed them my email confirmation and they told me that the system doesn?t let them book in for 8am but ?our MOT retests are always 8am?. I was told 8:30am, as I wrote this straight in my calendar when booking, and all the emails and texts said 8:30am.
This was obviously very frustrating as I had to rearrange work to get it in. Harry Marshall the centre manager just kept saying he told me 8am, I am certain he said 8:30am but he would not even consider this a possibility, instead proudly stating he?d been working there 18 months and he always says the right time.
Regardless, there is a major issue in the system if the emails cannot say the correct time. And this needs to be communicated when booking, make a point of mentioning ?you will get many emails and texts all with the wrong time, ignore them, sorry!?
In fact, an apology or simply some empathy for the situation would have been nice.
The retest today took 10 minutes, surely they could?ve squeezed me in during the time we were discussed their flawed booking system?
Usually love Halfords but I won?t be going back.

A good place to get work done. Best bit is they will accommodate you where some garages are rigid with leaving the car all day. Very helpful crew and knowledgeable.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I had booked in online for a free tyre health check. I arrived at the garage and was met by an extremely rude and arrogant Halfords member of staff. Didn?t even say hello. Just said what?s the reason for the check. I explained I am going on a long drive and wanted to ensure the car was safe as I had some low pressure alerts. He then said I?m sure not anyone is available to check the tyres. Goes inside to see who may be available. Then comes out and says no one is free to check the car. I was understanding and said I can wait up to an hour for someone to become available. However, this was not an option. He then just shrugged his shoulders and walked off. I then went to Kwik Fit on Lewes Road who were absolutely fantastic and pumped up all 4 tyres to the correct PSI straight away without any complaints. The level of service was a million miles apart. The Halfords member of staff should not be working in a customer facing role. Needs to have a long think about his poor attitude.

Highly recommended this auto centre to book for free brake or battery check. Friendly staff can advise you recommended features after the service. My battery was replaced in time after a free battery check service.
