Was a really nice place to stay. Staff were lovely and very accommodating. The table service in the restaurant was that of a 5 star restaurant in London. Giulio was the perfect host. Would definitely stay again.

The staff here really are incredibly friendly, on multiple occasions going the extra mile to make our stay easy and relaxing. The history of the building is also fascinating (and how the hotel gets its name). The rooms are very old and floors uneven but that?s part of the aesthetic. It does feel old and tired but I think it?s supposed to mostly. One thing we thought could?ve been better is we we wished the showers worked a little better (no power) and with consistent temperature, it was very hard to use!
The breakfast was excellent though and it?s located not too far from Battle and Bodiam Castle, but you will need a car. The taxi?s are really hard to get!

Original building looked like 'arts and craft' but despite having many extensions over the years, has kept its cozy ambience.
Overlooking a small village green near the village pub and post office.
At the rear there is a good sized car park.
The hotel's bar and restaurant are open to non guests.
The restaurant has excellent service and very well cooked food.
Breakfast is really good with both buffet and table service.
Nice guest lounge with French doors leading to the rear garden.
Everyday, after a day out, the hotel is reinvigorated with the smell of furniture polish.
There are some great National Trust attractions close by including Bodiam Castle.
I had booked a standard double, and the room was of a good size with a comfortable bed, I did feel that the bathroom let it down somewhat. There were large gaps between the flooring and the wall and some of the sealant had come away. There was also staining on the ceiling. Bath with shower over - with the shower worked directly from the bath taps. No single temperature dial here, just a fiddly faff to get the water at a comfortable level. Although the bathroom had an opening window, this overlooked the drive to the car park. (Ground level) The issue being, no extractor fan.
Being a vegetarian, I was a little disappointed with the restaurant options. Rather 1980s, unimaginative, nut roast and vegetable lasagna.
But both were excellent quality and cooked very well.

We stoped over at the Brickwall hotel on our way to Bodiam Castle. The breakfast was outstanding and the staff were very professional. We enjoyed our short stay :)

Old hotel nice location.
Our room was extremely dated with replacement shower door being a shower curtain, bodged grouting, toilet constantly running and no heating. Bed was comfortable but we were above the dining room so was woken up early. Stained carpet and non matching cups in the room was also a little disappointing.
No disabled access that I could see and despite having a walking stick was not offered any assistance or a ground floor room.
Dinner was nice, good sized portions a little pricey though and our bill had an over 10% service charge!
Breakfast was advertised as superb but was a little disappointing not much in the way of a continental breakfast and the cooked breakfast portions weren't great. Also no latte in the morning!
On the whole a friendly hotel but needs a some TLC.

An interesting hotel with character and lovely restaurant. Rooms are a little aged. Beds are comfortable and the location really quiet and right next to the Queen pub

I chose this hotel because of its location and the fact it had a bar and restaurant and was dog friendly. Unfortunately I when I visited the bar and restaurant were both closed so had to find some where to eat for my self. On the up side the breakfast was brilliant. They laid a table in the bar area so my dog could join me and even gave him his own sausage. The breakfast was very well cooked with quality ingredients and plenty of it.

Lovely location, amazing service, location of room meant the people with restricted movement had too many steps to negotiate to reach Restaurant and bar. Food excellent. We had our little dog with us and they set us a table in the bar area next to a roaring fire. Amazing ???

Used to visit with my grandparents for Sunday lunch, started having mini breaks here with my mum a few years ago and try to return every year. The
building and location are beautiful and all the staff are attentive and friendly couldn't wish for more.
