Visited for lunch. Ordered Bangers and Mash and Steak plus some bread.Overall, the food was good, but we waited a long time (it was only us two waiting to be served) and eventually everything came together, starter and mains. Mash was dry on the top and the steak was undercooked, a little downer considering £30 price. Hence, one star less. The bread and aioli however, fantastic. Fresh and tasty, I would definitely order it again. The staff were really nice and welcoming. You could feel a nice local community vibe, which is what I love when visiting places.

Absolutely fantastic hotel and restaurant. I stayed here overnight for work but will definitely be back with my wife for a proper stay! Decor and food are outstanding, the room was beautifully furnished and well stocked for the night and the facilities all felt new and well maintained.Breakfast the following morning was outstanding (possibly the best eggs Benedict I've ever had!). Also; it's two minutes walk from Hastings battlefield! Only sorry that this was such a fleeting visit. We will be back!Rooms: Beautifully furnished. Had everything you could possibly need. Really good facilities, warm and cosy.

We stayed two nights. The room was absolutely fine. As you?d expect at an old town hotel, all rooms (all upstairs) are different and ours was small but nice and quiet. We were able to park at the English Heritage car park for the Abbey for free using our members? car park sticker (which was a bonus). The food was disappointingly overall just average pub grub. Some good, some less so. Breakfast one morning was dry and eggs over cooked yet then next day was much better - the eggs Benedict were excellent. Dinner was very mixed with a nice starter followed by a main which was full of chips and salad but not much of the actual main dish. Pricey for what it was. With the exception of a young man called Max, who was polite, helpful and engaging, the service, was not so good. As an example, we were told that as we were part of a group we should all come to breakfast at the same time. Indeed for the second morning we were there (a Sunday) we were more or less instructed to be down at 8.30am - because they had to set up for lunch from 10am. So down we came at 8.30am only to find that the person who had instructed us wasn?t actually present; and the other staff seemed fine for us to show up when we wanted, within the times actually set out for breakfast. Overall it felt a bit like we were not the customer - more doing them a favour. Similarly so with most of the service (except Max). A bit begrudging, quite grumpy in part and none of the engagement you?d expect from someone glad to have business in what presumably is not the easiest time for the hotel trade. Indeed, it seemed that the hotel, with a constant stream of wedding parties and visitors to the Abbey, has so much business it doesn?t really need to make that much effort. Would love to have enjoyed it enough to stay again but not sure we would.

A "pub" nice atmosphere. Limited draft ales, good draft bier/lagers. The food was excellent. The mixed Sunday roast was really good. The staff were very friendly and polite.Rear garden had a wasp problem when we visited but wasn't any trouble. Insect candles provided to stop them pestering us. I'm sure this is only a temporary little nuisance.Otherwise, it is recommended.

Delishous meal! Staff have a good knowledge of cross contamination! Chips are gluten free and cooked in a separate fryer! Young female waiter who served us was very friendly, patient and knowledgeable

We come here regularly when my friends come down from Lincolnshire. The food is always nice although a bit pricey. The service however is truly shocking and has got worse to the point we got shouted out today by the so-called lady manager! We will find somewhere else for next time. Shame as its a great location.

The friendly service at this hotel is excellent. We were walking the 1066 trail and they were happy to look after our overnight bag. All communication with them was prompt and helpful. The rooms were great, clean, well provided and the beds super comfy. The food is also excellent both at breakfast and in the evening. We had a lovely meal and the place was busy but had a relaxed and contented atmosphere. Its popularity with locals rather than just tourists is a sign of its quality . Would recommend.

Hotel was amazing, cane down for a wedding, staff were friendly and very welcoming to my family, facilities were unbelievable, especially having a iron and ironing board on-demand. Breakfast was unbelievable, one of the best English Breakfasts I?ve ever had. If you ever visit Battle, you have to stay at this hotel. Rebecca and the team were extremely accommodating, would love to stay there again

Me and a friend attended for a Sunday roast. I appreciate that it was fairly busy, but the staff seemed as if they didn?t want to be there, staff were smoking cigarettes in the garden area close to people are eating. I was sold and paid for lamb and was then told there?s none left after sitting at the table. All of this aside my roast potatoes and stuffing were burnt black and it wasn?t a great overall experience. Nobody asked how the food was for me to say that it was a bad experience and it was payment upfront. As it stands I would not attend again.

Excellent location, directly opposite Abbey. Nice, friendly staff but they were a bit stretched. Food good pub food. Room comfortable if a little on the small side.

Popped in for a quick pint (as a local) to Battle and the young man with a beard was genuinely quite miserable and rude to me as we asked for a drink. I did ask if he was okay but he seemed to be quite fed up at the time. Maybe he should consider being a little happier next time.
