We had a lovely afternoon/evening tea celebrating a friend's birthday at Whitworth Hall Hotel. The food was lovely and the location amazing. We even got to hand feed the deer :-)

I have a voucher for afternoon tea for this hotel bought in 2020 for my birthday but so far after many emails and phone calls have ben unable to redeem it. I got in touch with Best Western group but they said I need to contact Whitworth Hall???

We did not stay over night so can't comment on this. We were at a wedding night which was very nice.

Beautiful building in a stunning deer park. Deer are docile and come right up to the fence to eat food from your hand. Some disappointments this visit include a room key making machine that had been faulty for 5 days (meaning staff had to open each guest's room door on request), mildew on the insides of shower curtains and limited beer selection at the bar (plenty of local craft breweries in the vicinity).

Just what I needed during the current Coronavirus situation. Somewhere nice to stay in a safe quiet country location with plenty of walks close by. Wonderful location within a deer park and long walks by the River Wear just a short distance away. Nice room on the front of the hotel with views of the deer from my window. Very comfortable bed and good bathroom and shower. The room was a little warm at times as I couldn?t open the window but there was a fan provided. Cushions and other soft furnishings had been removed but the room was still comfortable. I felt very safe here under the current circumstances and I thought the hotel was quite thorough in applying Covid precautions. All of the staff that I had contact with were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good and despite the limited menu the evening meals were excellent. Probably understandable during the current circumstances the hotel was not very busy but that did make it very quiet. I spent a good 6 nights here in this lovely old hotel. I hope that the new owners don?t spoil it by making it too exclusive with over the top luxury and prices. There were only two disappointments concerning my stay. Firstly the complete lack of WiFi in all parts of the hotel except for the bar, despite it being advertised as having WiFi available throughout. Secondly I booked through the Best Western Website and expected to get a considerable number of points awarded for a 6 night stay. However, the hotel ceased to be a Best Western hotel during the 3 weeks between my booking and my stay and I did not receive any reward points.

Very good food. But in most places in the hotel, you will only get 1 or 2 bars of signal. Really nice staff and overall it's a good hotel. It also has reindeer on site- which you can feed- and around Christmas time Santa comes in and gives children a present, but I think you have to reserve that.

We live in the South and regularly visit relatives in Co Durham and always use Whitworth Hall as a base. It has beautiful surroundings and a very comfortable interior. I seldom write reviews of hotels, but we were particularly impressed with the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Also the food was always good. I'm happy to recommend this hotel as an excellent base for travelling around Co Durham

Hope that new owners restore this old building (and plumbing system) back to its former glory, and that the interior will match the scenic exterior. Very friendly and helpful team provided impressive service. Our son loved the deer park. Reasonable bar prices too.

Was here for a wedding yesterday 26/09/2020 & what a really lovely place it is to stay. The hotel was so clean & tidy & all covid secure. The breakfast was lovely & the best thing is the deer they have on site where you can buy food to feed them

Somewhere special to take that someone special! what a beautiful located hotel! although i did not stay here, i did walk into the lobby and wish i was staying there! the place looked amazing and so relaxing! i had 3 kids with me so it was out of the question but maybe at another stage of my life i will be sure to stay at this beautiful establishment. The dear park on the other hand is perfect for kids! kept them entertained for hours feeding them. Would highly recommend a visit.

This is a beautiful hotel set in a wonderful deer park. The rooms were clean, tidy and well equipped. The staff were very friendly and helpful, unfortunately the hotel was extremely quiet which I was told was unusual but that did not set well as it was a Friday night. The hotel looks like a stunning place for a wedding for which it has won awards. Did I enjoy it, yes but it would have been better with someone to share it with.

Lovely small hotel with a deer park near Spennymoor. I met some friends for coffee and scones in the Garden Room. We had the room to ourselves as it was very quiet mid week. The coffee was good and the scones warm and delicious. Very reasonably priced too. Service was very good; staff were very helpful and pleasant.
