We love this little cafe we always eat in the snug area . It?s a popular place used by visiting families and local people and you always get a warm welcome from the staff. There breakfast s are fantastic . I love there homemade chips with the quiche and salad . They have quite a varied menu for it only being small , they do have outside tables which is great for a coffee / cake or ice cream or you can takeaway and enjoy the wonderful surroundings by the river. We have worked our way through the menu and everything is delicious . Staff always make you feel welcome great food and fantastic surroundings .

We've been past on the A68 many times and often wondered what it was like, and today we made the short detour to see. It is situated about 500m from the main road with easy access to ample parking. Dogs are welcome outside and in an open covered area and it was quiet when we visited. We only wanted a caramel shortbread (delicious) and coffee which was all served in takeaway containers which which when we left we put in the rubbish bins. Great play area for children and good and clean loos. Good walks along the Derwent and it was quite and peaceful when we were there. Static and touring caravan sites adjacent.

We call in here yesterday as driving past and it was lunch time. It was mega busy but we queued and ordered a burger with cheese and onions and a hot dog with onions. Waited a good 30 mins in the queue to order and then another 20 mins at the collection point. Burger came and it wasn't hot enough to melt the cheese on it and on both the burger and hot dog the onions were raw. I wouldn't recommend eating here and I'm not sure how the cafe thinks it's acceptable to service such sub standard food.

Visited on Saturday? Ordered a jacket potato topped with chicken curry and served with a side salad. There was a decent amount of topping on the potato and was served piping hot. Excellent value for money. Also ordered a sticky toffee pudding (forgot to take photo) one of the best toffee puddings I?ve ever eaten - sponge was lovely and moist. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. I loved the bell idea- was nice to enjoy a meal without staff hovering around but able to ring bell for assistance if anything was needed?.

We dropped by for an early lunch and had tuna jacket potato with salad, and fish fingers with chips. The cafe was not crowded, the staff were pleasant and the service was reasonably quick. My tuna jacket potato was a pleasant surprise with plenty of food well presented. Nickys fish fingers were similarly well presented and a generous portion. This place gave us all we could have wished for and exceeded our expectations. We would love to call again but may not be passing anytime soon. Best wishes. D & N
